Job Description
We are seeking a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join our Enterprise Quality Engineering team. In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain automated test solutions that support critical National General's applications and APIs.You will work closely with software engineers, product teams, and quality engineering professionals to help deliver reliable software through effective test automation and validation. The ideal candidate has experience developing automated tests for web applications and APIs, enjoys solving technical problems, and is passionate about improving software quality through automation.
The internal job title for this role is Software Engineer Consultant II.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, maintain, and execute automated test scripts for enterprise applications and APIs.
Create automation solutions using Selenium and C# within the organization’s in-house Test Runner platform and web automation framework.
Validate the functionality, reliability, and quality of web applications and services.
Collaborate with developers, business analysts, product teams, and quality engineering partners to understand requirements and define test coverage.
Design and implement automated test cases for new features, enhancements, regression testing, and defect fixes.
Identify, document, and track software defects through resolution.
Analyze automated test results and troubleshoot test failures.
Support continuous integration and continuous testing practices.
Participate in code reviews, sprint activities, and release testing efforts.
Contribute to improvements in test automation standards, processes, and best practices.
Essential Qualifications
2 years or more of experience in software testing, quality engineering, software development, or test automation. (Or Equivalent)
Experience developing automated tests using Selenium and C#; experience with Playwright, NUnit, xUnit, MS Test, or similar test automation tools is a plus. (Or Equivalent)
Experience with C# or another object-oriented programming language.
Experience testing web-based applications.
Experience creating and executing manual and automated test cases.
Understanding of API testing concepts and tools.
Understanding of the software development lifecycle and Agile delivery practices.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable Qualifications
Experience testing REST APIs and web services.
Experience with automated regression testing and test automation frameworks.
Familiarity with continuous integration and continuous delivery practices.
Experience working in an enterprise application environment.
Knowledge of test management and defect tracking tools.
Understanding of SQL and database testing concepts.
Experience supporting multiple applications or development teams.
What You’ll Work On
This role supports test automation for National General’s enterprise applications, including Standard, Preferred, Viper, and Direct-to-Consumer APIs. The primary focus is developing and maintaining automated tests through the organization’s in-house Test Runner platform and Selenium-based C# web automation framework. This role will support application testing and will not develop or maintain the Test Runner platform itself.
