Software Developer – Entry Level

AI & Innovation Mindset

AI is an essential part of how we design, build, and maintain software. We are looking for developers who embrace AI-assisted development and can effectively collaborate with AI agents to enhance productivity, improve software quality, and accelerate innovation. Candidates should have hands-on experience using prompt engineering and AI development tools to investigate issues, develop solutions, create tests, generate documentation, and automate engineering workflows.

Experience with AI coding agents, agentic workflows, and AI-enabled software engineering practices is a strong differentiator.

What Your Impact Will Be

  • Design, develop, enhance, troubleshoot, maintain and modernize Realware/Collectware, our multi-application enterprise software platform for property appraisal and tax collection.
  • Develop and support applications and services built with VB.NET, C#, .NET, WinForms, WPF/XAML, ASP.NET Core APIs, and Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience with MVVM patterns, identity and access management solutions such as Keycloak, reporting tools such as ActiveReports, and UI component libraries such as Infragistics is beneficial.
  • Quickly learn and contribute within a large, mature enterprise platform, balancing new feature development, modernization initiatives, operational support, and technical debt reduction.
  • Develop a strong understanding of property appraisal, assessment, and tax collection business processes and apply that knowledge to design, validate, and deliver effective software solutions.
  • Design, develop, and maintain database schemas, queries, stored procedures, APIs, integrations, and application components that support scalable, secure, and high-performing business solutions.
  • Leverage AI-assisted and prompt-driven development tools throughout the software development lifecycle to enhance productivity, quality, and innovation, including requirements analysis, solution design, coding, testing, debugging, documentation, refactoring, code reviews, and bug triage.
  • Contribute to the design, development, and continuous improvement of agentic workflows that automate and streamline activities across the software development lifecycle, including issue investigation, software development, testing, code review, and documentation.
  • Create and maintain AI agent instructions, context files, skills, and development standards that enable AI agents to effectively understand the application architecture, business domain, coding standards, and engineering practices.
  • Identify and champion opportunities to leverage AI and automation to improve engineering efficiency, product capabilities, software quality, and customer-facing workflows.
  • Use Azure DevOps, Git, GitHub, Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code, and AI-assisted development tools as part of an efficient and collaborative software delivery workflow.
  • Collaborate with developers, QA, product owners, support, and other team members to investigate issues, resolve technical challenges, and deliver high-quality product enhancements.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, refactor, and optimize applications to improve performance, scalability, reliability, maintainability, security, and overall customer experience.

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and demonstrated technical experience. Experience with generative AI, prompt engineering, AI-assisted software development, AI agents, or related technologies through coursework, certifications, projects, or professional work is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in at least one object-oriented programming language, such as VB.NET, C#, Java, or a similar language, demonstrated through academic, personal, open-source, internship, or professional experience.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, software design principles, data structures, algorithms, debugging, testing, and software development best practices.
  • Knowledge of SQL, relational databases, and data modeling concepts.
  • Familiarity with modern software development tools and environments, including Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code, Azure DevOps, GitHub, or similar platforms.
  • Experience using Git or other version control systems within a collaborative development environment.
  • Demonstrates ability to design, develop, test, and maintain software solutions through coursework, internships, personal projects, open-source contributions, or professional experience.
  • Hands-on experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools to understand codebases, generate and improve code, create tests, troubleshoot issues, automate routine tasks, and increase developer productivity.
  • Ability to effectively guide AI tools by providing clear context, requirements, constraints, and iterative feedback to produce accurate, high-quality outcomes
  • Ability to critically evaluate, validate, test, and refine AI-generated solutions, exercising sound engineering judgment rather than relying on generated output without review.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to quickly learn new or unfamiliar technologies, development frameworks, business domains, and existing codebases.
  • Demonstrates curiosity, adaptability, continuous learning mindset, and willingness to experiment with emerging technologies, including AI-driven development practices.

Prior experience with WinForms, ASP.NET Core, or the property appraisal and tax industry is not required. We are seeking candidates with strong software development fundamentals, demonstrated AI-enabled development capabilities, and the ability to quickly learn new technologies, business domains, and codebases.

What Would Make You Stand Out

  • Experience with VB.NET, C#, .NET, ASP.NET Core, WinForms, or WPF through professional work, internships, academic projects, personal projects, or open-source contributions.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including database design, query optimization, stored procedures, and data access development.
  • Familiarity with property appraisal, assessment administration, property tax collection, government technology, or other public sector business domains.
  • Experience working within and contributing to large, complex, or legacy enterprise applications and codebases.
  • Experience using AI coding agents and agentic development workflows
  • Experience creating and maintaining AI agent instructions, context files, skills, knowledge artifacts, or development standards that improve the effectiveness and consistency of AI-assisted development.
  • Experience designing, implementing, or optimizing multi-step agentic workflows that automate software development lifecycle activities such as coding, testing, issue investigation, debugging, code review, and documentation.
  • Experience with AI-assisted development platforms and tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Codex, Augment Code, Cursor, or similar technologies.
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps, GitHub, pull requests, branching strategies, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software delivery practices.
  • Experience integrating AI services, LLMs, AI agents, APIs, automation, or workflow orchestration capabilities into business applications.
  • Knowledge of Agile, Scrum, DevOps, and software process improvement practices.
  • Local to one of our offices - Allen, TX or Fort Collins, CO

Salary range: $70,000 - $80,000 USD per year.
