Overview 

Teal Media is seeking a fully remote Senior UX/UI Designer for a full-time contractor position! As a collaborative member of our team, you will craft the overall visual experience of web-based projects for high-profile social impact clients tackling big challenges in health, education, climate, and social justice.

Working closely under the direction of the Creative Director and Art Directors, you will produce visually engaging design deliverables to fulfill the creative vision for a project. These design deliverables will include sitemaps, wireframes, full-fidelity visual comps, UI component libraries, and custom graphics.

  • Ideal Location: Remote (U.S. Residents only)
  • Salary Range: $75-$85/hr
  • 6-month contract, 30-40hrs

This role is a part of the Creative Department. You will report to an Art Director or Creative Director.

Responsibilities & Skills

Project work and client engagement (80%)

  • Serve as the primary executor of design deliverables on one-off digital projects and retainers and assist Art Directors in setting the vision for the project and deliverables to be produced. 
  • Take the lead on digital design projects with limited input and guidance from Art Directors. You play a key role in idea generation, strategy, and execution alongside the client and project team.
  • In collaboration with lead strategist finalize website sitemaps and assign page templates based on content strategy, while keeping project scope and budget in mind. 
  • On select projects add to website plans and briefs that set the tone for the project, account for brand differentiation and audience goals, and consider scope and unique functionality needs.
  • Understand and work with Teal’s design and development framework.
  • Review deliverables with Art Directors, developers and other project team members with a collaborative mindset, setting meetings, informal/formal reviews, asks questions and collaborates to get what is needed for a thoughtful pacing of project work (i.e. not sending work the day before for review).
  • Decisively edit down designs solutions based on client project goals and best practices. 
  • Lead creation and presentation of wireframes and design concepts to help organizations understand how they meet audience goals and business objectives.
  • Confidently  guide clients in gaining consensus for approval on the deliverables.
  • Implement client and internal feedback with an eye for detail and strategic application. 
  • Juggle multiple priorities knowing when and how to move between projects to meet deadlines.
  • Communicate and collaborate with internal and external project team members and bring  a unique and fresh perspective to projects.
  • Take more leadership within client communications and ownership of the visual design system, in collaboration with developers and art directors
  • Provide accurate estimates for work.

UX/UI specific responsibilities

  • Produce design deliverables (sitemaps, wireframes, full-fidelity visual comps, UI component libraries, custom graphics (static and animated), etc.
  • Assist with discovery and client/user research on select projects
  • Maintain a knowledge and understanding of UX best practices and design principles (visual hierarchy, interactivity, content strategy, taxonomy, etc.)
  • Be an expert in Figma and have a deep understanding of prototyping, front-end animations, and design systems in order to create clear representations of designs and functionality. 
  • Own and document design intentions and decisions and assist developers in formulating  and functional technical specifications.
  • Design compelling visual expressions, whether refreshing for an established brand or building it for a new one.
  • Have a foundational knowledge of Content Management Systems (CMS) are set up to help shape the front-end user experience, preferably Wordpress.
  • Have a strong understanding of complex content architectures, and how custom fields, taxonomy structures, and post types are managed.

Inter-departmental collaboration and project management (10%) 

  • Expertly manage time and promptly meet internal and client delivery dates.Collaborate closely with developers in creating ideas and understanding feasibility.
  • Bring a unique and fresh perspective to projects and actively participate in team brainstorms, calls for inspiration, and be a reliable source in bringing fresh new thinking into projects.
  • Actively mentor junior designers by helping them through collaboration and knowledge sharing
  •  Guide clients through deliverables and expected steps in the process so they can make informed decisions. 
  • Develop a mature firm but gentle client management style when leading project workshops and exercises that build consensus 

Facilitate learning and process development (10%)  

  • Maintain, use and implement process & methodology set forth by creative team members that help gain efficiencies within projects (Figma, Brand, etc.).
  • Provide feedback to Art Directors when process & methodology is inefficient, unclear or causes roadblocks for project teams & clients.
  • Actively create case studies, marketing materials and support Teal business development by producing showcases of our work.

Working Hours Expectation

We would expect this contractor to be available during Teal’s core working hours (9am ET - 6pm ET). Some exceptions may be made for folks on PT/MT timezones.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Proven experience managing complex projects in design, web development, or digital marketing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong proficiency in project management tools (e.g., Teamwork, Basecamp, Slack).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize competing deadlines, and collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Familiarity with Agile and Waterfall methodologies is a plus.
  • Agency experience is a plus.
