Position OverviewThe Senior UX Designer will shape the end-to-end payroll experience that keeps the entertainment industry moving—ensuring crew members get paid accurately, efficiently, and on time, no matter how complex the production. From project setup and employee onboarding to timekeeping and payroll processing, your work will touch every critical moment in the production lifecycle across film, television, commercials, and live events.
Every day, thousands of crew members—grips wrapping after 16-hour days, department heads managing rapidly changing crews, and payroll accountants racing against union and compliance deadlines—rely on Cast & Crew’s platform to do their jobs under intense time pressure. As a Senior UX Designer, you’ll transform these high-stakes, regulation-heavy workflows into intuitive, scalable experiences that reduce friction, increase confidence, and help productions run smoothly.
You’ll own major portions of the Payroll End-to-End Experience, partnering closely with Product, Engineering, and Research to modernize decades-old processes into thoughtful, user-centered solutions. This role combines deep craft, systems thinking, and strong storytelling to balance user needs, business outcomes, and technical realities—while elevating design quality across the platform.

Design intuitive, end-to-end experiences that support crew members, department heads, and payroll teams working under intense time pressure. From onboarding new hires to capturing hours and managing pay, your designs will reduce friction in moments where accuracy and speed are non-negotiable.
Turn complex, compliance-heavy workflows into confident user experiences.
Simplify some of the most challenging payroll scenarios in the industry—union rules, rate calculations, eligibility requirements, and approval chains—so users can trust the system to “just work,” even in high-stress, deadline-driven environments.
Create cohesion across the Payroll End-to-End Experience.
Orchestrate seamless journeys across project setup, employee onboarding, and timekeeping, ensuring experiences feel connected and consistent across roles, products, and platforms. Your work will help eliminate handoffs, rework, and confusion across the production lifecycle.
Modernize legacy systems into a platform advantage.
Help transform decades-old payroll processes into modern, scalable enterprise experiences that differentiate Cast & Crew in a competitive market—proving that compliance-driven software can still be intuitive, efficient, and human-centered.
Deliver measurable UX outcomes that drive business value.
Partner with Product and Research to define and influence success metrics such as task completion time, error reduction, adoption, accessibility compliance, and user satisfaction—demonstrating how thoughtful UX design directly improves operational efficiency and customer trust.
Key Responsibilities
- Design Execution: Lead the design of user experiences for the Payroll End to End Experience (Project Setup, Employee Onboarding, Timekeeping), employee management, and the employee experience, from design brief and concept to delivery, with solid user storytelling.
- Wireframing and Prototyping: Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups to illustrate design concepts and workflows.
- Collaboration: Partner with product managers, developers, and researchers to translate insights into actionable designs that solve complex problems.
- User Research: Support user research efforts by leading on prototype testing, recruitment of user candidates, drafting research plans & scripts, mediating user interviews, gathering feedback, and refining designs based on your defined insights
- Design System Contribution: Leverage and contribute to the design system, ensuring consistency and scalability across products.
- Documentation: Provide clear design specifications and guidance to developers to ensure accurate implementation.
- Iteration and Feedback: Proactively engaging in design reviews, gather/give feedback, and refine designs through iterative processes.
- Accessibility and Standards: Ensure designs adhere to accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) and follow best practices in UX design.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Design, Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field; or equivalent work experience.
- 7+ years of experience in UX design, with a strong portfolio demonstrating enterprise SaaS solutions.
- Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience designing features or workflows, such as Reporting or similar data-heavy experiences.
- Strong understanding of user-centered design principles, usability best practices, and accessibility standards.
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to present designs and rationale to stakeholders.
- Experience working in an Agile development environment.
- Familiarity with design systems and component libraries.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Understanding and usage of AI tools a plus (eg. Figma Make, Claude, Lovable, ChatGPT).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the entertainment industry, payroll, or employee-facing technology platforms.
- Knowledge of analytics tools to measure adoption and usability to define success of design outcomes.
- Advanced degree in UX Design or related field.
- UX certifications or credentials.
- User adoption rates and usability scores for key features.
- Design consistency and adherence to design system standards.
- Impact on efficiency and workflow improvements within product areas.
- Stakeholder satisfaction and feedback.
Special Work Conditions
- Sedentary – Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Some positions may entail exerting up to 15 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push, or pull.
