Toast is looking for a seasoned Senior Technical Program Manager (TPM) to drive and enhance the efficiency, execution, and cross-functional alignment of complex R&D initiatives. As a Senior TPM, you will play a pivotal role in shaping program strategies, establishing best practices, and delivering high-impact projects that align with our product and business technology objectives. This role demands a blend of strategic vision, technical expertise, and hands-on program management, empowering teams to deliver on Toast’s ambitious roadmap.

Specifically, this role will focus on providing technical program management support for some of our most complex restaurant delivery initiatives, working with critical external partners. In the future, this role may take on additional responsibilities and programs across the other businesses at Toast.

  • Diving Deep: Quickly understand the scope, requirements, and risks associated with new and existing programs. Be ready to dive deep into technical and operational details, rapidly get up to speed, and identify and mitigate potential risks to ensure smooth program execution; all while being able to keep the big picture in mind.
  • Stakeholder Partnership: Cultivate strong relationships with stakeholders across R&D, Product, and Engineering, collaborating on roadmap planning and resource allocation to ensure strategic alignment and operational efficiency.
  • Adaptable: Able to adapt to change and iterate quickly; working in complex and ambiguous situations.
  • Technical Leadership and Guidance: Leverage your technical fluency to guide teams, establishing best practices and fostering continuous improvement. Encourage innovation within program teams by setting technical fluency standards and facilitating professional growth.

Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements)

  • 7+ years of experience in technical program management and product management, with a proven record of managing and delivering complex cross-functional programs in a tech-driven environment.
  • Deep background in the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and strong technical fluency.
  • Solid experience with 3rd-party partner management/engagement and building strong partnerships.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strategic frameworks and standardize processes for high-impact delivery across multiple programs.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills, with a history of effectively collaborating with technical and non-technical partners.
  • Results-oriented with a strategic mindset; proven ability to drive multiple programs to successful completion with a sense of urgency.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, combined with the ability to make data-driven decisions and communicate insights clearly.
  • Adaptable, iterative, and feedback-driven; embraces challenges as learning opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Self-starter who thrives both independently and as a cornerstone of a high-performing team.

Special Sauce* (Nice to Haves)

  • Certified/Tooling Excellence: Committed to best practices, maintaining key program management certifications (PMP, Agile, Jira, etc.).
  • Food Tech Fluent: Possess a deep, intuitive understanding of food delivery technology, products, and systems.
  • AI Enthusiast: Not just comfortable with AI, but eager to leverage its power and explore its potential.
