As a Sr. PM of Search, you are the owner of search end-to-end at HCP — both the platform infrastructure that powers search across every domain and the Global Search experience that pros interact with directly. Your primary customers are internal domain teams consuming your search APIs and the pros using search every day. You hold two perspectives simultaneously: building an elite developer experience for internal teams while shaping the end-user search experience that pros rely on. You set the long-term vision for how search at HCP scales, evolves, and delivers high-quality results — from the API layer to the search bar.

Our team is passionate, empathetic, hard working, and above all else focused on improving the lives of our service professionals (our Pros). Our success is their success.

What you do Each Day

  • Own the Global Search experience — typeahead, results relevance, and the search UI that pros use daily
  • Shape the end-user search experience alongside your designer, informed by pro workflows and feedback
  • Balance platform investments (APIs, abstraction layers, observability) with end-user search quality improvements
  • Define the long-term vision for search at HCP — both the platform infrastructure and the end-user experience
  • Identify opportunities to accelerate product velocity to meet domain teams' needs
  • Make decisions about infrastructure and internal builds that will have the most direct impacts on our Pros and our business
  • Bring an AI-first mindset to your work - using AI tools to compress discovery, spec writing, and cross-functional coordination so the team spends more time building and less time syncing
  • Analyze performance, latency, and search quality to proactively surface risks and evaluate opportunities to improve search across the platform
  • Own and communicate the Search Platform roadmap, balancing reliability with high-leverage capabilities
  • Define and evolve the contracts between the platform and domain teams (i.e. schemas, field standards, APIs...)
  • Improve workflows for schema changes and re-indexing to reduce friction and risk
  • Partner with engineering on index design, data pipelines, search APIs, and observability
  • Improve abstraction layers so domain teams can build search experiences without needing deep infrastructure expertise
  • Establish feedback loops with domain teams to continuously improve developer experience and platform usability

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of product management experience, specifically with platform, infrastructure, or developer-facing products. Experience with end-user-facing product work is a plus.
  • Practical experience working with product management for platforms and ideally search systems (i.e. OpenSearch, Elasticsearch, or similar...)
  • Experience defining APIs, SDKs, or internal platform contracts consumed by other teams
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to define and monitor platform health and performance metrics
  • SaaS product experience, ideally supporting business workflows where search is mission-critical
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage AI tools to accelerate product development, improve engineering collaboration, and ship higher-quality outcomes faster
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

What will help you succeed in this role

  • Genuine motivation to champion both your internal customers (product/engineering teams) and the pros who use search every day
  • Experience working with hybrid search architectures that combine traditional keyword/vector search with AI or LLM-based retrieval (e.g. RAG, semantic search, re-ranking)
  • Familiarity with applied ML or LLM integration patterns in product environments
  • Ability to operate strategically while unblocking tactical infrastructure issues
  • Clear, persuasive communication style that makes complex infrastructure tradeoffs legible to stakeholders
  • Genuine care for end-customer outcomes and connecting platform investments to Pro workflows
  • Track record of delivering outcomes in fast-paced environments

Location Dependent Information

This role is open to candidates and the expected salary range for this role is $119,000-$149,000. The specific salary for the successful candidate will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location. This role is also eligible to participate in Housecall Pro’s equity plan and the following benefits: health care insurance (medical, dental, vision, disability), employee assistance program, 401(K), flexible time off, paid parental leave, tech reimbursement, and other company benefits.
