Prime Robotics is pioneering the future of warehouse automation. Our robots handle pallet retrieval, case picking, each picking, and rack automation across active, high-throughput warehouse environments. As we scale our on-prem, production-critical systems, system software reliability, integration, and operational excellence are core competitive advantages.
Our mission: to build resilient, high-performance software systems that keep intelligent robotics running 24/7 in real warehouses.
The Opportunity
Prime Robotics operates a fully on-prem, containerized robotics platform powering real-time automation systems. We are looking for a Senior Systems Software Engineer who can bridge software, infrastructure, and robotics—owning the glue that keeps our systems stable, observable, and integrated. This role is about deep ownership of Linux systems, networking, Python-based system services, and production reliability in physical environments.
The Role
We are seeking a Senior Systems Software Engineer to design, build, and operate the system-level software that supports our Java-based core platform, robotics integrations, and on-prem infrastructure. This position reports to the Engineering Manager and works closely with Software Engineering, Robotics, and Support Operations teams. This is a full-time onsite position between offices in Lakewood, CO 80401 and Denver, CO 80205.
What You’ll Do
• Design and implement Python-based bridges, adapters, and services that integrate external software systems, robotics platforms, and hardware devices
• Build and maintain ancillary systems including health checks, watchdogs, diagnostics, telemetry, logging, and recovery mechanisms
• Own system reliability: availability, fault detection, restart strategies, and operational stability across deployments
• Manage and maintain Linux servers across production and lab environments
• Configure and support on-prem networking (segmentation, routing, service connectivity, firewalls, diagnostics)
• Operate and support Docker-based deployments, including container orchestration, image lifecycle, and runtime monitoring
• Partner with Java Software Engineers to support integration points, deployment workflows, and operational tooling
• Troubleshoot complex cross-layer issues spanning software, containers, OS, networking, and robotics systems
• Establish best practices for system observability, uptime, and production readiness
RequirementsSystem Software & Integration
• 7+ years of experience in system software, infrastructure-adjacent engineering, or platform engineering
• Strong proficiency in Python and Java for production system services and integrations
• Experience building adapters, middleware, or integration layers between heterogeneous systems
• Comfort working alongside large Java codebases
Linux & Infrastructure
• Deep hands-on experience with Linux server administration
• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, routing, DNS, firewalls, service discovery)
• Production experience with Docker and containerized systems
• Experience operating software in on-prem environments
Reliability & Operations
• Experience designing health systems, monitoring, and failure-recovery mechanisms
• Strong debugging skills across OS, container, and application boundaries
• Ability to reason about system behavior under load, failure, and degraded conditions
Bonus Qualifications
• Experience integrating with robotics systems, hardware devices, or industrial software
• Familiarity with gRPC, REST APIs, or messaging systems
• Experience supporting real-time or near-real-time systems
• Background in warehouse automation, manufacturing systems, or robotics platforms
What We’re Looking For
• An engineer who owns systems end-to-end, not just code
• Someone who values stability, clarity, and operational discipline
• A pragmatic problem-solver who can work close to hardware and production constraints
• Comfortable operating without cloud abstractions or managed services
• High accountability, low ego, and strong technical judgment
CompensationSalary range: $110,000 – $145,000, commensurate with experience.
