What will you do?
A day in the life of a Senior Demand Planner at Altra looks a little like this.
You will play a critical role in the AMER supply planning process working with Demand, Sourcing, and Product to ensure the right products are available at the right time to meet customer demand. You will work to maintain customer service targets and inventory days across key US channels leveraging data to identify trends, optimize plans, and support inventory strategy. This role reports to the Senior Manager of Demand, Supply, and Inventory Planning.
Let’s break down that day-in-the-life a bit more.
- Own US Supply Planning and buy recommendations using demand inputs, current inventory, lead times, MOQs/pack sizes, and buy readiness; create and route purchase requisitions in SAP to the Sourcing team for execution.
- Provide monthly supply outlook and Open-to-Buy inputs to Inventory Planning for assigned categories, including expected receipts, inventory position, and risks/opportunities.
- Monitor demand and supply timing on an ongoing basis using SAP and Excel-based trackers; identify exceptions (potential stockouts, excess, past-due supply) and re-phase supply to improve customer service and meet inventory objectives.
- Partner with Demand Planning during capacity or material constraints to align forecasts to feasible supply, recommend prioritization, and communicate impacts to availability.
- Manage seasonal system set-up and line plan validation in partnership with Demand Planning, ensuring item readiness, assumptions alignment, and correct timing for seasonal flows.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders (Demand Planning, Inventory Planning, Finance, Operations, Sourcing) to support delivery of current-month financial objectives while balancing service, inventory, and cost.
- Support service and inventory performance reporting while analyzing trends and exceptions to drive follow-up actions and improve operational performance and business outcomes.
- Maintain a longer-term view of supply availability across segment/product type; assess capacity, vendor constraints, and material risks, and recommend mitigation actions (timing shifts, pre-buys, prioritization, alternatives).
- Participate in and/or lead key projects to evolve supply chain capabilities, including improvements to planning processes, SAP utilization, and Excel-based reporting/analytics.
- Perform ad hoc analysis and reporting as required to support leadership decisions, issue resolution, and continuous improvement initiatives.
