Cloudera Solutions Engineers are the technical leaders in the sales account team. They are responsible for securing the technical win in each sales opportunity and for building an ongoing relationship with our customers to ensure their success with Cloudera technologies. You will use your strong technical skills and business acumen to understand customers’ challenges, design solutions and demonstrate how Cloudera technology can change their agency or mission. This position is for a candidate with experience working with federal civilian agencies. This role is focused on empowering federal civilian agencies to transform complex data into actionable insights and supporting their unique mission needs.

As a Senior Solutions Engineer you will:

  • Own the technical sales process from introductory meetings (net new sales) through post-sales (customer satisfaction, upselling, and subscription renewals)

  • Supporting the technical needs of customers including discovering new use cases for Cloudera’s technology

  • Designing solutions for your customers’ needs using Cloudera technologies, based on reference architectures and common patterns

  • Demonstrating Cloudera products in a way that inspires your customers to say “yes” to Cloudera

  • Partnering with your Account Managers to show your customers the true value and operational outcomes of a Cloudera solution and drive successful sales

  • Presenting product roadmap and vision to inspire your customers to think bigger

  • Interfacing with other Cloudera teams to ensure your customers hear one Cloudera voice

  • Advocating for your customers’ needs to Product Management and Engineering

  • Participating in external publicity and evangelism (conferences, meetups, webinars, blogs)

We’re excited about you if you have:

  • A passion for using technology to make a difference to people and organizations. We'll supply some amazing tools to help you with this and you'll provide the connection to use cases, which make it real for your customers.

  • A minimum of 8 years experience in a customer-facing role, ideally in a pre-sales context

  • The ability to create and give technical presentations and demonstrations

  • Experience with some of the following technologies:

    • Big Data, Data Warehousing or Relational Databases

    • Data Engineering, Data Science or Machine Learning

    • Operations, Security and Data Governance within the enterprise 

    • One or more of the three major cloud service providers (AWS, Azure or GCP). Formal certification is not required, but would be a great thing to have.

    • Private cloud infrastructure and platforms (including distributed container platforms, such as Kubernetes).  Formal certification is not required, but would be a great thing to have.

    • SQL, Python, R, Spark, Airflow, NiFi, Kafka, and Flink

    • Unix or Linux

  • Experience gathering and understanding customer requirements

  • Understanding of federal civilian agencies and their specific data and analytic requirements

  • Clearance preferred (DOE Q clearance)

  • Understanding of US Federal Public Sector regulations and authorization frameworks/processes/publications (such as FISMA, RMF, NIST SP 800-53, FIPS 140, FedRAMP, STIG, etc) suitable for federal civilian agencies

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Confidence in presenting to large audiences and leveraging storytelling techniques

  • Excellent problem-solving, with abilities to analyze complex problems and develop effective solutions

  • A willingness to learn, a curiosity to discover and a drive to make your customers successful

The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is:

California: $171,000 - $205,000

Colorado: $171,000 - $205,000

Illinois: $171,000 - $205,000

Maryland: $171,000 - $205,000

Massachusetts: $171,000 - $205,000

New York: $171,000 - $205,000

New Jersey: $171,000 - $205,000

Washington: $171,000 - $205,000

Individual compensation within the published range is determined by the candidate's skills, experience, qualifications, and primary work location. In addition to base pay, sales roles are eligible for Cloudera's commission plan, while non-sales roles are eligible for the corporate incentive plan. All employees receive a comprehensive benefits package.
