About Shipium

Shipium builds technical infrastructure for complex supply chains.

Modern operators turn to Shipium when they want to turn their supply chain into a strategic value driver. Shipium's platform provides cloud infrastructure and leading AI capabilities that optimize costs and scale automation.

We’re building tech that connects previously fragmented systems and automates complex supply chain decisions to deliver speed and value across operations.

Founded in 2019 by supply chain technology experts from Amazon and Zulily, the company is on a mission to help every eCommerce company provide its customers a great delivery experience while simultaneously reducing their costs to fulfill orders.

About the role

As a Senior Software Development Engineer at Shipium, you will combine hands-on coding with growing technical influence as you build the core product services and supply chain capabilities that power our shipping intelligence platform. You will independently design, implement, and operate microservices that serve enterprise-class clients at high throughput, and your work will be the kind peers reach for, reference, and build upon.

You will take end-to-end ownership of the systems you build – from design through production. Your success will be measured by your ability to deliver complete, robust solutions on time, anticipate and address realistic failure modes before they reach customers, accelerate your team through mentorship and clear technical communication, and apply modern AI development tools as a core part of your workflow to improve velocity and quality.

What you'll do

  • Design and build platform services. Produce forward-looking designs and build microservices in Java, Spring, React, or TypeScript that minimize technical debt and account for realistic failure modes and customer usage patterns.
  • Build cloud-native infrastructure. Build and operate services on AWS using containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and modern cloud-native patterns, balancing performance, scalability, and cost.
  • Work across the data layer. Design and optimize real-time and batch data pipelines using PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis.
  • Define APIs and integrations. Implement RESTful APIs, message queuing patterns, and event-driven workflows that connect internal services and client platforms.
  • Develop with AI-assisted tools. Use tools like Claude Code to accelerate development, improve quality, and broaden test coverage, and help evaluate new AI tools that improve team productivity.
  • Own what you ship. Hold your work to a rigorous definition of done, own production reliability from monitoring through incident resolution, and drive root-cause fixes over patches.
  • Elevate code quality. Participate actively in code review with a focus on edge cases, security, and failure-mode handling, not just correctness.
  • Mentor and influence. Provide structured feedback to engineers, write RFCs and design proposals, and partner cross-functionally with product, data science, and customer-facing teams.

Qualifications

  • Education and experience. A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, and/or 5 plus years of progressive experience in software development, platform engineering, or distributed systems.
  • Software engineering depth. 2+ years building production services, APIs, or microservices in cloud-native environments, including responsibility for code quality and operational ownership.
  • Cloud fluency. Hands-on experience with AWS (or comparable), containerization, and modern deployment patterns.
  • AI proficiency. Demonstrated, judgment-driven use of AI development tools such as Claude Code, code generation models, and AI-assisted testing in your daily workflow.
  • Track record of delivery. A consistent record of delivering complete, on-time work with rare post-release surprises and escalating risks early.
  • Experience influencing people. Experience mentoring engineers and providing structured technical feedback within a team.
  • Nice to have. Experience in logistics, shipping, or B2B SaaS supply chain software, and a track record of writing RFCs or design proposals adopted by a team.
