Pay Range

$117,600.00-$161,700.00 Annual

This is the base salary pay range that an applicant can expect to make upon hire.   Pay within this range will vary based upon relevant experience, skills, and education among other factors. In addition, this position is eligible for an incentive bonus. 

The purpose of the Senior Research Engineer is to develop new products and processes and standards for Johns Manville to increase sales and provide JM with a competitive advantage. The Senior Research Engineer will be responsible for conducting research, interacting with customers, design, and run pilot/plant trials, provide plant and production support, develop and deploy operational and engineering standards, qualify products, and perform project management for specific activities with a reduced scope in a matrixial organization.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead moderate to long term projects resulting in moderate/significant business advantages to JM, including conducting research, designing, and running pilot/plant trials.
  • Develop operational and engineering standards and lead its deployment and assimilation at the plant level.
  • Develop patents, trade secrets and/or other intellectual property that provides a strategic business advantage.
  • Lead new product commercialization through multi-stage development, including code approval, prototyping, plant trial, and transition to operations
  • May be required to perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements: (education, skills and abilities)

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Ceramics, Chemical or Electrical engineering, or a relevant technical field with a minimum of 5 years of related work experience.
  • Glass industry background in the hot end, forming and/or melting areas with a minimum of 3 years of related work experience is highly preferred.
  • Work experience in high temperature application industries such as steel, aluminum or technical ceramics manufacturing is a plus.
  • Graduate studies preferred (Master's degree or PhD).
  • Strong working knowledge of a specialized technical discipline and applies working knowledge of other professional fields.
  • Ability to apply technical knowledge to choose alternatives and to modify methods, designs, and general practices
  • In depth knowledge of statistics and data driven decisions.
  • Ability to make compelling case for technical recommendations to a business.
  • Ability to capture operational and process improvement opportunities to develop company-wide standardized procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proven project management skills.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Proven analytical and process improvement ability.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Proficient in MS Power BI is highly preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and in a high-paced team environment.
  • Ability to interface at all levels of the organization, both internally and externally.
  • Moderate travel required (25%-35%).
  • Work environment is typical of a research and development facility.
  • When working in a plant, may be exposed to environmental conditions of cold, heat, high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, heights, dust/mist/gas/fumes, extensive walking or climbing, etc.
  • May be required to lift, carry, push, or pull up to and including 25 pounds.
