About the Role


The Senior QA Automation Engineer will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing Mission’s automation testing strategy, leveraging BDD framework to drive quality across the software development lifecycle. Reporting directly to the Quality Engineering (QE) Manager, this individual will lead the design, development, and optimization of a robust automated test suite using the Selenium framework, ensuring reliable and scalable builds.

 

This role demands a seasoned quality advocate who can collaborate cross-functionally with internal stakeholders and external partners to uphold Mission’s engineering standards and delivery excellence. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in automation architecture, a strong command of testing best practices and insurance expertise, and a forward-thinking mindset to prototype innovative solutions that elevate our automation capabilities.


What You'll Do

  • Design, develop, and execute robust automated test suites using Mission’s BDD framework, ensuring alignment with business priorities and technical scalability, with a focus around core policy and underwriting workflows such as submission intake, risk evaluation, pricing/rating, quoting, document generation, and billing/accounting.
  • Partner with third-party teams, project managers, business analysts, and developers to understand features, workflows, and delivery timelines—translating into effective automation strategies.
  • Evaluate and prioritize test script development based on risk assessment, business impact, and release timelines to maximize coverage and efficiency.
  • Champion quality engineering principles across teams, promoting automation where it drives measurable value and accelerates delivery.
  • Identify systemic issues and trends and proactively develop mitigation strategies to reduce technical debt and enhance codebase maintainability.
  • Deliver timely and actionable insights from automation execution, including test results, defect trends, and performance metrics.
  • Define and implement maintainable automation strategies across platforms and environments, ensuring consistency and long-term sustainability.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to communicate risks, defects, dependencies, and opportunities for process optimization and test coverage improvement.
  • Operate within Agile, Scrum, or SAFe frameworks to support iterative development and ensure high-quality product releases.
  • Create test scripts, test data, and scenarios based on functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Architect and maintain the automation framework, selecting appropriate tools and technologies, building reusable components, and ensuring scalability and maintainability.
  • Maintain automated testing environments, data, and configuration across sprints.
  • Ensure automated tests are seamlessly integrated into CI/CD pipelines, enabling continuous feedback and faster, more reliable releases.
  • Analyze failed tests, identify and log defects, and work with development teams to resolve issues.
  • Stay current with emerging trends and recommend tools, practices, and process enhancements.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of quality-driven strategies and initiatives that elevate Mission’s engineering standards and delivery outcomes.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of related experience in quality engineering role.
  • 7+ years of related experience in a hands-on automation quality engineering role.
  • 7+ years of related experience utilizing tools such as Azure Devops, JIRA, ALM, etc… for test case management and execution.
  • 5+ years with Selenium (Java) based automation.
  • Experience with build tool such (Gradle, Maven) 
  • Experience with Git / Git Actions / YAML
  • Experience with Policy Administration Systems across Policy and Billing functions (i.e., Guidewire, Duckcreek, Origami, QuickSolver etc…)
  • Self-driven and ability to adapt quickly to a fast-paced and evolving environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) or equivalent from an accredited four-year college in computer science, information science, information technology, or a related field.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the year.

Preferred Qualification

  • 5+ years of experience in the P&C insurance industry and regulatory environment.
  • Experience with modular and microservice based architecture.
  • Experience creating and executing automated tests for APIs, backend, and data ingestion.
  • Exposure to OWASP / Gatling

Additional Information

This is a remote position. Planned, in-office activities may be required on occasion (typically 2-4x per year).

You must live in the United States and be authorized to work in the United States without requirement of employment sponsorship/visa.
