About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Python Developer to take ownership of an existing software project and help bring it to completion.
The project is already underway, and we need a developer who can quickly understand the current architecture, review the existing codebase, identify gaps and technical issues, and implement the remaining functionality. You will work hands-on with the code, improve reliability and maintainability, and help move the project toward a stable, production-ready release.
This role is ideal for a senior engineer who is comfortable working with existing systems, making sound technical decisions, and delivering results with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
- Review and understand the existing Python codebase, architecture, and project documentation.
- Identify incomplete features, bugs, technical debt, and performance bottlenecks.
- Implement remaining features and resolve outstanding development issues.
- Refactor and improve existing code while maintaining backward compatibility where needed.
- Debug complex problems and improve application stability, reliability, and performance.
- Work with existing APIs, databases, integrations, and third-party services as required.
- Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code and improve test coverage.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to clarify requirements, prioritize tasks, and communicate progress.
- Identify project risks and recommend practical solutions.
- Prepare the application for deployment, release, and ongoing maintenance.
Required Qualifications
- Strong professional experience developing software with Python.
- Experience taking over, maintaining, debugging, and extending an existing production codebase or established project.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, object-oriented programming, and software design principles.
- Experience building or integrating APIs and working with relational databases.
- Proficiency with Git and collaborative development workflows.
- Experience troubleshooting complex bugs and improving code quality.
- Ability to work independently, estimate tasks, and deliver against agreed priorities.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with a Python web framework such as Django, Flask, or FastAPI.
- Experience with automated testing, code reviews, and continuous integration.
- Familiarity with Docker, cloud platforms, and deployment pipelines.
- Experience improving performance, reliability, and maintainability in existing applications.
- Experience taking an incomplete software project through final testing and release.
What Success Looks Like
- A clear understanding of the existing system and its outstanding requirements.
- Successful completion of the remaining high-priority features.
- Resolution of critical bugs and technical issues.
- Improved code quality, test coverage, and application stability.
- A maintainable, well-documented project that is ready for its next stage of operation.
How to Apply
Please submit your resume and a brief overview of your Python development experience. We are particularly interested in examples of projects where you took over an existing codebase, resolved complex technical issues, or helped deliver an unfinished application.
Please also describe your experience with the relevant technologies and your approach to bringing an existing software project to completion.
