Role Summary
Support the North America Programs and Delegated Authority business's profit and growth objectives by providing end-to-end actuarial ownership and portfolio-level governance for strategic portfolio relationships. North America Programs has been tasked to scale to $1B in GWP by 2030, and this role is a critical enabler of that growth, providing actuarial oversight for strategic portfolio relationships that are typically large and complex in scale and central to the North America Programs and Delegated Authority business.
The Portfolio Actuary partners closely with Underwriting, Exposure Management, Reserving, Finance, Claims, and Operations teams to ensure these select strategic relationships are underwritten to appropriate risk and return standards, and that pricing adequacy and performance monitoring support profitable scale.
Externally, the role is a visible actuarial point of contact with key strategic partners, helping to drive analytical and performance cadence, resolve issues, and strengthen day-to-day engagement across the relationship.
Key Responsibilities
Portfolio Actuarial Ownership
  • Serve as the single point of actuarial accountability for a large program portfolio across regions and functions.
  • Act as a partner across underwriting, exposure management, reserving, and finance to ensure alignment on risk, return, and strategic objectives.

Portfolio Governance & Performance
  • Provide actuarial oversight across the full program lifecycle, including onboarding, ongoing vetting, and forward-looking portfolio planning.
  • Own program- and portfolio-level evaluation of risk, return, and capital efficiency, delivering clear recommendations on pricing adequacy and portfolio mix.
  • Deliver regular monitoring and performance analyses (rate change, loss trends, exposure growth, and market dynamics) to identify issues and opportunities.
  • Provide actuarial support for alternative capital structures, including profitability considerations and reporting requirements.
  • Oversee actuarial evaluation and governance of individual program profit-sharing arrangements.
  • Serve as the primary actuarial liaison with internal and external partners on data flows, reporting, and portfolio analytics.
  • Maintain and enhance portfolio benchmarks, metrics, and reporting frameworks.
  • Provide independent actuarial vetting of all new program opportunities to ensure disciplined growth and adherence to target return thresholds.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Associateship or Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS/FCAS) or comparable education/designation with relevant experience.
  • Minimum 5-7 years relevant experience required.
  • Sound knowledge of actuarial techniques and standards, as well as other business operations including financial, underwriting, legal, statistics, claims, sales, etc.
  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships and interact effectively with others within and outside the organization.
  • Ability to motivate and mentor peers and motivate and train subordinates.
  • Advanced computing skills (MS Office Excel, SAS, etc.) with ability to build complex models.
  • Familiarity with programs/delegated authority business, alternative capital structures, and/or Lloyd's/London market strongly preferred.
  • Advanced communication skills: demonstrated ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely, and to influence senior management and stakeholders across regions and functions.
  • Ability to lead independently and operate with accountability across a complex, global, multi-stakeholder portfolio.
  • Ability to develop creative solutions to unique and complex problems, often when data is limited.
  • Ability to drive teamwork and collaboration across departments, functions, and geographies.
  • Ability to establish and build effective relationships within and outside the organization.

The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role.
