Astroscale U.S. Inc. is currently seeking a Senior Mechatronics Engineer to join our team in our Denver, Colorado location. In this role you will work on mechanical design concepts, systems, and models. Your designs will ensure that our servicing solutions deliver our vision of a sustainable space environment.

Job Description

  • Create mechanism design concepts to deliver on-orbit servicing solutions.
  • Develop conceptual models in support of mechanical design performance predictions.
  • Define Mechanical and Electrical system and sub-system requirements and interfaces.
  • Support testing activities for developed mechanisms including; test plan generation, data collection and analysis, real time debugging/repair, and report generation.
  • Develop, optimize, and implement robotic controls logic and algorithms.
  • Apply technical knowledge to analyze, investigate and resolve engineering problems.
  • Collaborate with customer and supplier staff and staff from other parts of Astroscale.
  • Bridge the gap between mechanical and electrical systems an oversee integration activities.
  • Assist in the development of custom printed circuit boards (PCBs) as needed for bespoke mechatronic systems.
  • Be able to apply a systems engineering mindset and have a comprehensive understanding of complex electro-mechanical systems.
  • Inform hardware selection and procurement for sensors, motors, drivers, and actuators.
  • Design and build wire harnesses for electro-mechanical assemblies.

Qualifications

  • Ability to design, develop, implement, and test structure systems and/or mechanism designs for satellites.
  • Hands-on experience with prototype electrical hardware production, assembly, and testing.
  • Familiarity with computer aided design tools, such as SolidWorks and electrical design tools such as Altium, DipTrace, or Eagle.
  • Proficiency with Classical Analysis Techniques: ability to utilize standard calculation techniques to validate finite element predictions and testing results.
  • Basic PCB design and electrical schematic layout experience, including wire harnessing.
  • Proficiency with software languages relevant to logic and controls such as python, ROS, and Simulink
  • Experience with electrical analysis software, such as Ansys Electrical Enterprise.
  • Collaborative communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experienced professional with 8 or more years of experience in mechatronic configuration, design, test.
  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree or PhD in science, technology, engineering or math, or equivalent experience.

Salary range: $135,000 – $170,000. The salary range represents the low and high end of the Astroscale U.S. Inc. salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, knowledge, and ability as applicable to the role.
