At Pattern Bioscience, we’re tackling antibiotic resistance, one of the biggest public health challenges of our time.  We use machine learning and microfluidics to quickly recognize the bacteria causing an infection and to predict which drugs will cure the infection.

We are looking for a teammate, a problem solver, someone who is persistent, resilient, passionate, and loves to see projects to completion. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will join our Consumable and Automation Engineering team and bring your design experience to support efforts to transition our manufacturing equipment from low volume to high volume production. You will design or select equipment that consists of optical, thermal, pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, or electronic hardware to support both consumable and instrument manufacturing.  In addition to working with the Hardware Engineering and Assay teams, you will work closely with our Manufacturing and Quality teams.

Goals
  • Review and provide recommended changes to existing production equipment.
  • Develop testing equipment for verification testing of the consumables.
  • Design and develop a laser welder pin and slot fixture to improve ease of use and process consistency.
How You Will Contribute
  • Design, develop, and test electromechanical production equipment and manufacturing aids.
  • Work with manufacturers and machine shops to produce custom prototypes and final equipment parts and/or assemblies.
  • Evaluate, develop, and select off the shelf equipment that can support production volume requirements.
  • Create and manage drawings, bill of materials, and test data for parts, test fixtures, and equipment assemblies.
  • Develop and execute FATs, SATs, and validation plans for new or updated equipment and control systems.
  • Develop work instructions and O&M manuals, and train operators on the proper use of equipment.
  • Own projects from early-stage definition through commissioning and reporting verification or validation test results.
  • Apply first principles mechanical analysis to validate design integrity and ensure functionality, safety, and reliability.
  • Collaborate with other engineers, scientists, and/or manufacturing operators to verify design outputs and validate user requirements.
We'd Love to Hear from You If You
  • Drive towards high quality results while operating independently.
  • Enjoy working hands-on (in the lab or on the manufacturing floor) to solve problems.
  • Have demonstrated experience designing and deploying mechanical equipment from problem identification and idea generation to validation and verification with limited guidance.
  • Can use FEA tools, such as Simulation, to confirm designs meet performance and reliability requirements.
  • Are experienced working with data acquisition and control systems to continually improve in-test and in-process data recording and equipment usability.
  • Structure and process qualitative or quantitative data and draw insightful conclusions from it.
  • Have experience running DOEs to improve product quality and process efficiency.
  • Are collaborative and regularly seek feedback from stakeholders.
  • Proactively seek to learn and improve, pursuing high standards for yourself and your work.
Desired Education and Experience
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 7 years’ experience with clear experience owning products or projects from concept to commissioning.
  • Experienced in the design, development, documentation, and implementation of automated production equipment.
  • Proficiency in DFM, FMEA, GD&T, and 3D CAD (specifically SolidWorks, a plus).
Skills or Attributes Considered a Plus:
  • Development and commissioning of heat sealing or liquid filling equipment.
  • Experience in an FDA regulated environment, PLC controls, and/or running DOEs.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, ANSI, and/or NEC safety standard.
Benefits
  • Medical, Dental, Vision, Short-Term Disability, and Life Insurance
  • Flexible Schedule
  • Paid Time Off
  • Career development
  • The opportunity to make a global impact and pioneer solutions

To fulfill our mission and build world-changing technology, we’ve put together a diverse, multi-disciplinary top-notch team, a culture of innovation, learning, adaptability, and excellence and environment where people love coming to work.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, religion, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, status as a qualified individual with disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
