The future of aerospace and defense starts here.

Ursa Major was founded to revolutionize how America and its allies access and apply high-performance propulsion, from hypersonics to solid rocket motors, satellite maneuvering and launch. We design and deliver propulsion and defense systems that solve the most urgent and critical national security demands.

The Senior Manager of SEC Reporting will own Ursa Major’s external reporting function and serve as the principal owner of all SEC filings. Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller, this role will be responsible for leading the preparation, review, and timely filing of all periodic and current reports, and for maturing our reporting processes, controls, and supporting systems as the company grows.

This role is both strategic and hands‑on: you will design and implement best‑in‑class reporting practices while rolling up your sleeves to lead the drafting, coordination, and review of all SEC filings. You will collaborate closely with Accounting, FP&A, Legal, Investor Relations, and other business leaders to ensure accurate, compliant, and insightful external reporting.

Key Responsibilities

SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting

  • Lead the end‑to‑end preparation, review, and filing of all SEC reports (10‑K, 10‑Q, 8‑K, and other required documents).
  • Own the drafting of MD&A, financial statement footnotes, and other narrative disclosures, ensuring clarity, consistency, and compliance with SEC and U.S. GAAP requirements.
  • Coordinate XBRL tagging and review for all SEC filings.
  • Monitor and interpret new and evolving accounting standards (U.S. GAAP) and SEC regulations; assess their impact on the company and drive implementation.
  • Partner with the technical accounting team to research complex transactions and ensure appropriate accounting and disclosure (e.g., revenue recognition, stock‑based compensation, debt/equity instruments, business combinations).

Process Maturity & Internal Controls

  • Design, refine, and document standardized processes and calendars for quarterly and annual reporting cycles, emphasizing efficiency, accuracy, and clear ownership.
  • Enhance and maintain robust internal controls over financial reporting related to SEC filings, including review checklists, disclosure controls, and key control activities.
  • Implement best practices and technology tools (e.g., disclosure management software) to streamline drafting, collaboration, version control, and review workflows.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to shorten close timelines, reduce errors, and elevate the quality of external disclosures.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with FP&A to ensure consistency between external reporting, board materials, and internal performance metrics and forecasts.
  • Partner with Legal and Investor Relations on disclosure strategy, earnings materials, and alignment of SEC filings with public communications.
  • Liaise with external auditors on quarterly reviews and annual audits, managing the reporting-related audit requests and resolving issues promptly.
  • Support the Corporate Controller and CFO with ad‑hoc analyses, board and audit committee materials, and investor‑related requests.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • CPA certification
  • 7–10+ years of progressive experience in accounting and financial reporting, including significant SEC reporting experience at a public company and/or Big 4 public accounting
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC rules and regulations, and external reporting requirements
  • Experience leading the preparation of 10‑K/10‑Q filings and related disclosures
  • Strong technical accounting skills and experience evaluating complex transactions and their disclosure implications.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex accounting and business matters into clear, concise disclosures.
  • Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with various ERPs
  • Strong project management skills; able to manage multiple deadlines and stakeholders in a fast‑paced environment.

Desired Experience:

  • Proven track record building or maturing reporting processes, controls, and systems in a growing organization.
  • Experience with SEC/disclosure management software (e.g., Workiva)
  • Manufacturing and/or Aerospace & Defense industry experience
