Job Description SummaryPosition Overview
We are seeking a Senior Generator Controls Engineer to lead innovation, mentor engineers, and drive complex technical projects that shape the future of our power systems. In this role, you will provide technical leadership, ensure delivery of high-quality solutions, and collaborate across functions to achieve strategic goals.
You will work with potential source, bus-fed, brushless, DC rotating, and compound units, handling excitation systems ranging from 35A voltage regulators to 8000A static multi-bridge designs. A deep understanding of power electronics and generator applications is essential, along with the ability to troubleshoot installation and commissioning of excitation systems, gather field data, and support customer interactions both remotely and on-site.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Project Ownership

  • Engineering Excellence: Serve as the technical lead for complex generator control projects, from initial design and quoting to final commissioning.
  • System Mastery: Lead the design and troubleshooting of excitation systems, ranging from small 35A voltage regulators to large-scale 8000A static multi-bridge systems.
  • Strategic Project Delivery: Manage project lifecycles by defining scope, mitigating technical risks, and ensuring all deliverables are aligned with business objectives, budget, and rigorous quality standards.
  • Stakeholder Partnership: Act as the primary technical point of contact for OEM partners, commercial teams, and end-users, ensuring seamless communication throughout the project lifecycle.

Operational Influence & Mentorship

  • Mentorship & Development: Actively coach and mentor staff engineers, fostering an environment of technical rigor, professional growth, and knowledge sharing.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with NPI (New Product Introduction) and Quality teams to refine engineering processes, standardize documentation, and enhance the overall engineering value stream.
  • Field Support & Commissioning: Provide high-level guidance during Customer Witness Tests (CWT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SATs). Lead on-site troubleshooting efforts for complex field issues to ensure optimal system performance.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Technical Benchmarking: Stay at the forefront of power electronics and control technology, identifying and integrating new solutions that enhance product reliability and efficiency.
  • Process Optimization: Drive continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing field data and performance metrics to identify opportunities for design enhancements and cost-saving measures.
  • Standardization: Enforce and evolve design standards to ensure compliance with global safety and performance regulations while maintaining high levels of product quality.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 10+ years of technical engineering experience, including 3+ years demonstrating leadership.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Willingness to travel up to 25%.

Desired Skills

  • Masters Degree in Engineering.
  • Proven success in leading and delivering complex engineering projects.
  • Familiarity with control systems from GE, Emerson, ABB, Rockwell, Siemens, Brush, Reivax, and others.
  • Expertise in electrical and mechanical control systems.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities to manage multiple projects.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with cross-functional communication strengths.
  • Leadership and interpersonal skills to inspire and guide teams.

Application Deadline:

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $113,200.00 and $188,800.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.

Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
