About the role

As Senior Full-Stack Engineer at WellcomeMat, you will take ownership of major parts of our core application stack — from scalable Laravel-based backend systems to modern, high-performance React interfaces.

You’ll play a key role in modernizing our codebase, reducing technical debt, and introducing AI-driven efficiencies across development, QA, and deployment. This position combines hands-on engineering excellence with technical leadership and offers direct impact on how our platform evolves over the next decade.

You’ll work closely with the CEO and senior leadership today, and with a forthcoming Product Manager and Architect as the team expands.

Key responsibilities:

Backend leadership

• Lead development of core backend systems built on Laravel, PHP, MySQL, and Redis.
• Modernize existing services, eliminate legacy bottlenecks, and improve overall scalability.
• Architect data pipelines and integrations with MLS, RETS, and RESO APIs.
• Enhance our video processing systems and optimize media delivery performance.
• Collaborate with DevOps to strengthen CI/CD pipelines, Docker environments, and cloud deployments (AWS, Rackspace).
• Improve monitoring, observability, and error-handling processes for reliability at scale.

Frontend ownership

• Oversee React- and TypeScript-based front-end applications, guiding component architecture and design integration.
• Maintain UI quality and performance while implementing new user-facing functionality.
• Partner with Product and Design teams to deliver intuitive, high-impact experiences.
• Ensure browser security, accessibility, and responsiveness across devices.

AI and automation initiatives

• Integrate AI/ML tools that enhance engineering productivity and product intelligence.
• Introduce AI-driven CI/CD and QA automation (e.g., GitHub Copilot CI, intelligent code review, automated test generation).
• Evaluate and prototype AI workflows that reduce manual testing, monitoring, and deployment overhead.
• Collaborate with leadership to define how AI transforms internal efficiency and future product capabilities.

Collaboration and leadership

• Serve as a senior technical voice within the organization, mentoring peers and modeling best practices.
• Participate in roadmap planning, balancing quick delivery with long-term system health.
• Partner with leadership on architecture and infrastructure decisions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, ideally in SaaS or high-traffic media environments.
• Deep proficiency in PHP (Laravel), MySQL, and Redis.
• Strong command of React, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS.
• Proven ability to design and scale systems handling large volumes of media and metadata.
• Hands-on experience with Docker, CI/CD, and cloud infrastructure (AWS, Rackspace).
• Familiarity with video processing tools and content-delivery optimization.
• Solid understanding of API integrations (REST, JSON, XML).
• Experience with GitHub best practices — PR workflows, code reviews, branching discipline.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.
• Self-starter mindset: comfortable leading initiatives, making decisions, and iterating quickly.

Nice to have

• Experience integrating AI/ML features (OpenAI API, LangChain, AWS AI services, etc.).
• Familiarity with automated testing frameworks and AI-based QA tools.
• Background in video, media, or marketing-tech platforms.
