JOB OVERVIEW:
As Senior Firmware Engineer you will be a key member of the Owlet engineering team, responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the embedded software that powers our next-generation products. You will develop new features, create robust automated testing frameworks and fine-tune system performance to deliver a best-in-class user experience while ensuring regulatory compliance. Your work will directly help make millions of families around the world feel safer, more informed, and incredibly reassured.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, build and maintain the firmware of innovative products that save lives
- Write code, tests and documentation that is readable and usable for years to come
- Work cross-functionally to drive new features, new products of the highest possible quality
- Ensure regulatory compliance and quality through test plans, test automation, code inspection, unit tests and rigorous documentation
- Contribute to team best practices, improving our Agile methodology
- Provide technical direction and mentorship to junior engineers
- Work with manufacturing to bring our innovative new products to consumers
Requirements
- 7+ years of firmware engineering work experience
- Experience with agile software development
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Competent with the C programming language
- Familiarity with serial protocols such as UART, SPI, I2C
- Experience with WiFi and Bluetooth
- Experience with big loop and real time operating systems (preferably FreeRTOS or Zephyr)
- Experience with source control (preferably git)
- Experience with a scripting language (preferably Python)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with FDA-cleared or other regulated health tech products and navigating compliance requirements
- Experience with IoT technologies (MQTT, AWS IoT, etc)
- Experience with Nordic Semiconductor nRF series processors
- Experience with HIL testing
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
- Contributed to open-source projects
