About this role
The Senior Field Technician performs commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and energization activities for utility substation projects throughout the Northeastern United States. This role supports the safe and reliable operation of transmission and distribution systems by conducting protection and control verification, circuit breaker testing, and in-service validation of substation equipment.

What you'll do

  • Conduct in-service load checks and operational assessments to confirm system readiness
  • Prepare and implement equipment isolation and restoration procedures to support safe maintenance and testing activities
  • Verify, troubleshoot, and energize breaker control circuits, resolving issues that could delay project turnover
  • Complete DRMCC (Digital Relay Monitoring and Control Cabinet) checkout activities, review commissioning procedures, and document test results to support project turnover requirements

What you'll bring

  • 5+ years of experience in substation testing, commissioning, or maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of protection and control systems, protective relays, and high-voltage equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and commissioning procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience on transmission and distribution utility projects.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to lead field activities and coordinate across engineering and operations teams.

Physical requirements and work environment

  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and move testing equipment as needed, up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work outdoors and onsite at substation locations across the Northeastern United States, in varying weather conditions.
  • Exposure to high-voltage equipment, high noise levels, and varying temperatures

Safety Requirements

  • PPE & Compliance: Strictly adhere to all site safety protocols and wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times (e.g., safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toed boots, arc-flash rated clothing as required).
  • Hazard Awareness: Proactively identify, report, and mitigate potential workplace hazards or unsafe conditions, particularly around energized equipment.
  • Standards: Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations, utility-specific safety standards, and internal safety training.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary commensurate with experience
  • 401(k) retirement plan: Includes a generous company match
  • Comprehensive health coverage: Multiple medical plan options, including 100% company-paid plans, HSA & FSA
