About the RoleAs a Sr Test Engineer at Sierra Space, you will leverage your extensive expertise and experience to lead and contribute to advanced testing and validation projects of aerospace systems and components. You will work with considerable latitude in determining technical objectives and provide guidance and mentorship to early career engineers. Representing Test Engineering, you will engage with cross-organizational senior personnel and serve as the prime technical contact on significant programs and projects.
In this role, you will lead and execute advanced and complex test plans, test procedures, and test reports to demonstrate compliance with system requirements. You will apply extensive technical expertise and working knowledge in the execution of Test Engineering tasks, providing innovative solutions to complex technical problems. Working without appreciable direction, you will exercise considerable latitude in determining technical objectives and approaches. You will guide, mentor, and lead early career engineers in completing job assignments, fostering professional development and technical growth. Utilizing and mastering various testing equipment, standards, and methodologies, you will support validation efforts and ensure the quality of aerospace systems and components. You will develop and implement creative and effective solutions to complex technical problems, demonstrating ingenuity and creativity. Overseeing the successful completion of major program milestones, you may function in a project leadership role. You will interact with cross-organizational senior personnel on significant technical matters, fostering collaboration and technical excellence. Representing the organization as the prime technical contact on programs and projects, you will ensure alignment with technical objectives and organizational goals. Preparing and documenting detailed technical data, reports, and analyses to support engineering initiatives and project decision-making will be essential. Furthermore, you will communicate complex technical concepts and information clearly to team members, senior engineers, and stakeholders, ensuring effective collaboration and successful outcomes.About You

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Typically 8+ yrs of related experience (6 years of experience in electrical test engineering for spacecraft or aerospace systems preferred).
• Demonstrated experience with spacecraft programs across Class A (e.g., high-reliability, long-duration missions) and Class C (e.g., lower-cost, shorter-duration missions).
• Proven expertise in medium to high-rate production environments, with a focus on efficient and scalable testing processes.
• Strong knowledge of electrical test equipment, including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, power supplies, and data acquisition systems.
• Proficiency in test automation tools and scripting languages, including COSMOS, Python, and LabVIEW.
• Deep understanding of spacecraft command and control architecture and appropriate test methods.
• Experience tailoring SMC-S-016 standards to meet program-specific requirements.
• Excellent analytical skills and ability to interpret complex test data.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to present findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Willing and able to obtain Active Secret Clearance (minimum).

 
Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with spacecraft power systems, avionics, RF systems, or telemetry.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical test engineering for spacecraft or aerospace systems.
• Familiarity with industry standards such as MIL-STD, NASA-STD, and ECSS.
• Knowledge of environmental testing (thermal, vibration, EMI/EMC) for spacecraft systems.
• Active Secret or higher security clearance.

Compensation:

Pay Range:

$135,695.00 - $186,601.25

Your actual base compensation will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge and skills, education, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness.
