It is a broad area of ownership that has a critical impact on the quality and efficiency of mobile app development at Zillow Group.

About the role

We're looking for a DevOps engineer with deep experience provisioning, maintaining, and operating CI/CD infrastructure and supporting software services. On the Mobile App Platform team, our “customers” are our peers: mobile app developers at Zillow Group. You’ll build, maintain, and operate the infrastructure and event-driven services that run hundreds of thousands of mobile app workloads every month. You’ll design, collect and report on metrics across the software development lifecycle in search of ways to make pipelines even faster and more reliable. If you have a passion for making hundreds of software engineers happy, productive, and efficient every single day, this is the role for you!

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company. U.S. employees may live in any of the 50 United States, with limited exceptions.

In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington state, and Washington DC the standard base pay range for this role is $158,200.00 - $252,800.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington state, and Washington DC and may not be applicable to other locations.

In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.

Who you are
  • Expert in cloud-based linux and/or macOS server administration, and optimizing compute infrastructure for CI/CD workloads

  • Proficient in building containerized and serverless programs in modern languages such as Python, Swift, Kotlin, Rust, or Golang.

  • Deep understanding of cloud networking, virtualization, storage, observability, security, and cost optimization

  • You love infrastructure-as-code, declarative programming, and immutable infrastructure

  • Experience with varying deployment strategies (Blue/Green, Canary, Progressive Delivery)

  • You’re passionate about making it easy and efficient to deliver constantly evolving, large-scale mobile applications.

  • You love to give talks, trainings, and write how-to guides

  • Strong communication skills to interact with audiences that include customers, peers and leadership

  • 5+ years of systems administration and/or software development experience

Additionally, the following items are preferred, but not required:
  • Experience deploying tools to offload local development tasks onto remote infrastructure, such as operating distributed build caches and/or remote build execution.
  • Experience in automated testing of infrastructure code and CI/CD components to enable fast and stable upgrading and patching

  • Experience deploying, customizing, and measuring self-hosted runner software (such as the gitlab-runner), and contributing back to these open source projects

  • Experience deploying and operating Kubernetes clusters on cloud providers
