Own the enterprise data layer on SAP HANA Cloud, designing relational and graph models, optimizing SQL and SQLScript performance, and building ingestion and replication pipelines. Develop secure service layers, enforce schema and database standards, implement multi-tenant access controls, and manage monitoring, recovery, capacity, and upgrades. Partner with machine learning and search teams to support feature pipelines and indexing, while documenting data models and graph schemas.

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer with serious depth in SAP HANA Cloud and graph databases to own the data layer beneath OMS+ IA. Our product lives on top of large, complex, deeply interconnected enterprise data, and the quality of that data layer sets the ceiling for everything built above it. You will model and optimize on HANA Cloud, and design graph data models that let the product answer connected questions relational queries handle poorly. Things like material substitutions and compatibility, product and customer hierarchies, and supply and fulfillment networks. You will also make sure that layer serves our machine learning and search engineers well, since their pipelines start where your work ends.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and optimize data models on SAP HANA Cloud, including tables, calculation views, CDS artifacts, stored procedures, and SQLScript.
  • Design and implement graph data models and traversal queries for connected-data problems such as material substitution and compatibility, product and organizational hierarchies, and supply and fulfillment networks.
  • Write and tune high-performance SQL and SQLScript: read execution plans, find the real bottleneck, and fix it.
  • Assist with performance engineering across the data layer — partitioning, indexing, memory management, workload classes, and result caching.
  • Build data ingestion and replication into HANA Cloud from SAP and non-SAP sources using things like SDI, SDA, SLT, change data capture, or comparable approaches.
  • Expose data to the TypeScript product stack through clean, secure, well-documented service layers.
  • Set and enforce standards for schema design, migrations, versioning, and code review of database artifacts.
  • Implement security and access control: roles and privileges, data masking and anonymization, and multi-tenant data isolation.
  • Work closely with machine learning and search engineers so the data layer serves feature pipelines and search indexing efficiently.
  • Own monitoring, alerting, backup and recovery, capacity planning, and HANA Cloud upgrade readiness.
  • Document data models and graph schemas so the rest of engineering can build on them confidently.

Required Qualifications

  • Deep SAP HANA or HANA Cloud engineering expertise — modeling, SQLScript, calculation views, and production performance tuning.
  • Experience with graph database capabilities: graph data modeling plus a traversal query language such as SAP HANA Graph, Cypher/Neo4j, Gremlin, or SPARQL, and the judgment to know when a graph model is genuinely the right tool.
  • Expert SQL, including execution plan analysis and optimization of complex analytical and transactional queries.
  • Experience with data replication and integration into HANA from source systems, and a realistic view of how those pipelines fail.
  • Strong grasp of relational and dimensional modeling, normalization trade-offs, and safe schema evolution.
  • Proficiency in at least one application language (TypeScript/JavaScript or Python ) for building services and tooling around the data layer.
  • Database security and multi-tenant data isolation experience.
  • Clear communication and a genuine habit of documenting data models for other engineers.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) experience, including the Cloud Application Programming (CAP) model and HDI containers.
  • Working knowledge of SAP SD and MM data structures and order-to-cash processes.
  • Experience with the HANA Cloud vector engine, spatial engine, or machine learning libraries (PAL/APL).
  • Graph algorithms at scale: pathfinding, centrality, community detection, or graph-based recommendation.
  • Knowledge graph, ontology, or RDF modeling experience.
  • Experience supporting machine learning feature pipelines or search indexing from the data layer.
  • CI/CD for database artifacts using tools, particularly HDI deployment pipelines.
  • Containerization and Kubernetes experience.
  • SAP HANA certification.
