CompassX is a boutique business and technology consulting firm. We help Fortune 500 and high-growth clients deliver their most strategic initiatives, from enterprise transformations to digital and data-driven projects. With over 15 years of proven results, we’ve expanded across industries including financial services, pharmaceuticals, aerospace, consumer products, and quick service restaurants.

We are honored to be recognized as a three-time winner of Consulting Magazine’s Best Boutique Firms to Work For, and previously recognized as a “Best Place to Work” in Southern California and one of INC.’s 5000 fastest-growing private companies in the U.S.

This is a short-term, project-based engagement best suited to an experienced 1099 independent contractor who's comfortable moving fast in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment.

You'll be working within the client's data integration and warehousing stack, helping build and maintain pipelines that move and shape data for downstream reporting. You'll work closely with client-side stakeholders as well as the CompassX team, so clear communication and the ability to translate technical work into business context matters as much as the engineering itself. You'll collaborate closely with a small group of engineers and analysts, so the ability to work autonomously while staying tightly aligned with the team is essential.

What You'll Do

  • Design, build, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using IICS to integrate data from source systems into the warehouse
  • Develop and optimize data models and structures within Amazon Redshift
  • Write production-quality SQL and Python to transform, validate, and automate data workflows
  • Build and support Power BI data models that feed reporting and dashboards for business stakeholders
  • Implement data quality checks and validation logic to ensure accuracy and traceability across pipelines
  • Document data flows, models, and pipeline logic to support handoff and long-term maintainability
  • Work closely with client-side stakeholders as well as the CompassX team, translating technical work into business context
  • Collaborate with a small group of engineers and analysts, working autonomously while staying tightly aligned with the team

What You'll Bring

  • Hands-on experience with IICS (Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services) for data integration
  • Experience working with Amazon Redshift as a data warehouse platform
  • Strong SQL skills and solid grounding in ETL/ELT pipeline design
  • Proficiency in Python for data engineering workflows
  • Experience building Power BI data models, ideally including a strong grasp of data modeling best practices for reporting layers
  • Comfort working with cloud-based data infrastructure (AWS preferred, given the Redshift environment)
  • An eye for data quality and validation — this is a pharma environment, so accuracy and traceability matter
  • Strong communication skills, with experience collaborating directly with client stakeholders
  • Bonus: familiarity with Veeva, particularly in a pharma or life sciences context

Our consultants say CompassX is a place where they can truly find their own path. As part of a smaller firm, they see the impact of their work, have an identity, and know their voice matters. They value the freedom to take the reins of their careers, shape their client work, and maintain a direct line to leadership.

With CompassX’s focus on serving local Southern California clients, consultants not only build lasting relationships but also see the results of their work in the communities where they live.

At CompassX, you won’t just follow a path - you’ll create one.
