Malwarebytes is reimagining security to safeguard devices, data, and people — no matter their location, lifestyle, or means. What began in 2008 with one person helping another remove a malware infection has grown into a global leader in online protection, with an all-in-one suite of cybersecurity, privacy, and identity protection solutions that empower millions of people worldwide to enjoy their digital lives, free from threats and scams.
About Malwarebytes Inc.
Our portfolio has grown far beyond malware removal into a full suite of award-winning cybersecurity, privacy, and identity solutions, from the free tools that have long served as a first line of defense to newer options for identity protection and personal data removal. The threat landscape keeps getting faster, stealthier, and more sophisticated, and we believe protection should be both powerful and refreshingly simple — because security that's too hard to use doesn't get used. Built and beloved by experts, we combine world-class threat research with proprietary, AI-powered processes to deliver powerful digital protection that's always by your side.
Malwarebytes is looking for..
A Senior Communications Manager to help drive the next chapter of our storytelling. This is a hands-on, mid-level role that splits its focus across two priorities: supporting our robust, well-established PR program, and building and growing an earned creator program that extends our voice to new and engaged audiences.
You'll join a mature communications function with strong media relationships and a steady drumbeat of coverage. On the PR side, you'll help keep that engine running — pitching stories, managing press activity, and supporting our threat research and executive communications. On the creator side, you'll help stand up and scale a program from earlier stages: identifying the right voices in security, tech, and adjacent spaces, building authentic relationships, and turning them into a durable channel for earned reach.
This is a great fit for a communications professional who is equally comfortable working as a reporter and working as a creator — someone who can execute reliably within an established program while bringing entrepreneurial energy to something new.
Compensation Ranges:
CA Bay Area Range: $150 - $170K
Region 2: $135 - 165K
Region 3: $130 -160K
What You Will Do:
Public relations (roughly half your time):
- Support day-to-day execution of an established PR program — drafting and distributing press materials, coordinating announcements, and managing an editorial calendar of news moments.
- Pitch and place stories with security, technology, and business media, and build and maintain relationships with reporters, editors, and analysts.
- Help translate technical threat research and product news into clear, compelling narratives for external audiences.
- Support executive and spokesperson communications, including briefing prep, talking points, and industry engagement opportunities.
- Track coverage, monitor the media landscape, and report on results against program goals.
Earned creator program (roughly the other half):
- Help build and grow an earned creator program from the ground up — defining the approach, identifying priority platforms, and setting the foundation for how we work with creators.
- Identify, vet, and build authentic relationships with creators and voices across security, tech, consumer, and adjacent spaces.
- Develop briefs, story angles, and campaign moments that give creators genuinely useful, on-brand material to work with.
- Coordinate creator activity around launches, research releases, and cultural moments, in partnership with social, content, and brand teams.
- Measure earned creator impact and iterate — refining the program as it scales from early wins into a repeatable channel.
Across both areas:
- Partner closely with content, social, brand, product marketing, and threat research to keep messaging consistent and stories connected.
- Bring sound judgment to fast-moving moments, including reactive news and issues that touch a security brand.
Skills You'll Need to Have:
- 7–10 years of experience in communications, PR, or earned media — in-house, at an agency, or a mix. This is a mid-level role, not entry-level or leadership.
- A track record of earning media coverage and building genuine relationships with journalists and/or creators.
- Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to make technical topics clear and interesting for a general audience.
- Familiarity with the creator and influencer landscape, and a point of view on how earned creator relationships differ from paid influencer deals.
- Comfort operating in two modes at once: executing reliably within a mature program and building something new from early stages.
- Organized and self-directed, able to manage multiple workstreams and deadlines with limited oversight.
- Interest in cybersecurity, technology, privacy, or online culture — direct security experience is a plus, not a requirement.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred but not required
Bonus points if you have:
- Experience in cybersecurity, technology, or another fast-moving, technically complex industry.
- Experience standing up or scaling a earned creator or influencer programs.
- Familiarity with media monitoring, PR, and social measurement tools.
