The Senior Mainframe Application Programmer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, implementing, and supporting complex mainframe applications and enterprise systems. This role requires deep expertise in mainframe technologies, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to lead technical initiatives while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience in COBOL-based environments, mainframe databases, transaction processing systems, and enterprise application architecture.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, enhance, and maintain complex mainframe applications and software solutions.
- Analyze business and system requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions.
- Create and maintain application architecture, technical specifications, and program documentation.
- Develop, test, debug, and implement software enhancements and new functionality.
- Work closely with business stakeholders and technical teams to validate requirements and ensure successful delivery.
- Troubleshoot production issues and provide ongoing application support.
- Perform system integration activities between hardware and software components.
- Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to development standards and best practices.
- Optimize system performance, reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
- Ensure compliance with security, governance, and information assurance standards.
- Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies and process improvements.
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
- Minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience in mainframe application development and programming.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience working with IMS, DB2, COBOL, and CICS in enterprise mainframe environments.
- Proven experience in software development lifecycle methodologies including analysis, development, testing, deployment, and support.
- Experience working with large-scale transactional systems and mission-critical applications.
