Responsibilities

We are seeking a part-time Engagement Quality Reviewer to support the National Attest Office with reviewing engagements under PCAOB standards, with a primary focus on Special Purpose Acquisition Company (SPAC) engagements. This role will assist the National EQR group in reviewing financial statements, audit workpapers, and related engagement documentation to evaluate compliance with PCAOB standards, SEC reporting and independence requirements, applicable AICPA standards, and Firm policies, procedures, and best practices.

 

 

Essential Functions and Primary Duties 

 

  • Performing engagement quality reviews of engagements that fall under PCAOB standards, with a focus on audit quality, technical compliance, SEC and PCAOB reporting considerations, and consistency with Firm methodology and policies.

  • Reviewing PCAOB-related financial statements, workpapers, significant accounting and auditing conclusions, and related documentation for compliance with applicable professional standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Coordinating with engagement teams and designated EQR leadership to communicate review observations, resolve open items timely, and support completion of seasonal filing deadlines.

  • Providing technical input on audit and reporting matters, including PCAOB standards, SEC rules and regulations, auditor independence, and Firm consultation requirements.

  • Documenting EQR conclusions clearly and consistently in accordance with Firm requirements and applicable professional standards.

  • Identifying recurring engagement review themes and communicating potential quality improvement opportunities to NAO or EQR leadership, as appropriate.

  • Complying with the professional and Firm requirements (e.g., employee handbook requirements, time entry procedures, audit quality control document requirements, etc.) including complying with confidentiality requirements (e.g., client information, proposal information, personnel information, job-related information, etc.). 

  • Actively attending and engaging in meetings and training sessions. 

  • Maintaining the required CPE for firm and licensing standards. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

 

  • 10+ years of public accounting experience with significant audit experience serving public companies, SPACs, SEC registrants, or PCAOB-inspected engagements.

  • Prior experience serving as an engagement quality reviewer for private and public entities, concurring reviewer, national office reviewer, or equivalent technical review role preferred. 

  • Advanced knowledge of U.S. GAAP, PCAOB standards, SEC reporting requirements.

  • Experience with pre- and post-SPAC IPOs (Registration statements, comfort letters and quarterly/annual public filings), de-SPAC transactions, including registration statements, periodic filings, and related audit and review considerations.

  • Familiarity with complex financial instruments, such as fair value considerations relating to financial instruments and other accounting matters commonly arising in SPAC engagements preferred.

  • Strong analytical ability, critical thinking capacity, and diligently performs assigned tasks with the highest degree of professionalism and integrity. 

  • Must have the capability to professionally, appropriately and effectively communicate with a diverse group of individuals. 

  • Must exhibit a high degree of professionalism including the ability to maintain the highest levels of confidentiality. 

  • Must be able to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, innovative, and continuously changing environment. 

  • Must be available to work extended hours during peak SPAC filing periods, including weekdays and weekends, as necessary.
