About the role
We are seeking a Senior Accountant to support the general ledger accounting function at Riot Platforms. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of monthly close activities, account reconciliations, and financial reporting, and reviews certain work prepared by staff-level accountants. This role will work closely with the greater Accounting department and requires someone who is comfortable taking initiative, exercising sound judgment, and operating independently in a fast-paced, high-standards environment. This position will report to the Corporate Accounting Manager.
What you'll do
- Prepare and post monthly journal entries and maintain the general ledger.
- Perform month-end and year-end close procedures, ensuring accuracy and adherence to close timelines
- Prepare and/or review account reconciliations across balance sheet accounts, including review of cash and bank reconciliations prepared by staff accountants.
- Support the accounting for debt arrangements, including draws, interest, and related debt costs, and assist with monitoring covenant compliance requirements.
- Assist with intercompany transactions and eliminations, ensuring accurate and timely consolidation entries.
- Review lease agreements to help determine proper lessor accounting treatment and revenue recognition under ASC 842.
- Prepare invoices for data center lease arrangements in accordance with contract terms.
- Assist in the preparation of entity-level and consolidated financial statements and supporting schedules.
- Analyze monthly account and financial trends and provide variance explanations to management.
- Maintain documentation and internal controls over assigned processes, ensuring compliance with GAAP, internal policies, and SOX controls.
- Support quarterly reviews and annual audits by preparing schedules and responding to auditor inquiries.
- Help develop, document, and maintain standardized accounting policies and processes.
- Take on additional accounting-related responsibilities as needed.
What you'll bring
- 5+ years of general ledger or corporate accounting experience.
- Degree in Accounting.
- ERP system such as NetSuite required.
- Working understanding of U.S. GAAP, including familiarity with ASC 842 and debt-related accounting concepts.
- Experience preparing and/or reviewing account reconciliations and monthly journal entries.
- Comfortable reviewing the work of others and providing constructive feedback.
- Proven ability to interpret contracts and apply technical accounting guidance.
- Experience collaborating with team members and cross-functional departments.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Effective verbal, written, and listening communication skills to support the needs of other departments, auditors, and management.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong attention to detail.
Compensation and Benefits
- $85,000-$95,000 base salary range, commensurate with experience + bonus + sign-on equity grant
