JOB SUMMARY
The Risk Claims Manager directly manages the company's auto liability and workers' compensation claims. This is an individual-contributor role with no direct reports — the Risk Claims Manager will manage claims for physical property damage, auto vehicle damage, and other verifiable damage, rather than overseeing a claims staff. The role ensures complete and sound claim settlements, legal reviews, and investigations in accordance with company policies and procedures, and directly manages workers' compensation claims, including return-to-work documentation and modified duty job offers. The Risk Claims Manager will recommend measures to reduce or eliminate losses due to accidents and injuries. This position has the potential to be remote.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Personally investigate and manage the company's claims. Work with insurance companies to set claim reserves.
  • Identify claims that require escalation to the insurance company during intake and gather all relevant information needed for claim resolution.
  • Directly manage property damage, auto damage, and workers' compensation claims; handle serious losses, retain and direct defense counsel, and attend mediations and depositions as needed.
  • Provide excellent customer service when speaking with insureds/claimants by phone.
  • Prepare statistical reports of claims activity and submit reports/findings as requested; lead claim file reviews as requested.
  • Ensure the company takes appropriate measures to minimize claim losses and comply with government regulations.
  • Create a positive and productive work atmosphere by communicating and behaving professionally and collaboratively with all employees.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • At least seven (7) years of extensive claims experience in a senior-level, individual-contributor claims role.
  • Extensive knowledge of liability claims administration, including litigation avoidance.
  • Thorough understanding of complex medical treatments, treatment outcomes, tort, venue, and jurisdictional matters, along with highly developed investigative and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated success exercising independent decision-making, problem-solving, and effective negotiation skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software; Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel preferred.
  • Knowledge of statistical process control desirable.
