Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a motivated Quality Assurance Automation Engineer to join the BASIS program team. This role is integral to maintaining the program's automation-first QA mandate — all quality assurance activities must be automated. The QA Automation Engineer will develop, execute, and maintain automated test scripts and test cases across the full deployment pipeline, supporting Agile sprint delivery cycles and the Government-managed DevSecOps pipeline.

The selected candidate will work under the guidance of senior engineers and QA leads to contribute to the development of automated test coverage, Requirements Traceability Matrices (RTMs), and UAT support activities, while adhering to rigorous DoD quality standards including zero defects to production, and compliance with DoDI 5000-87.

This position is remote

The position will be responsible for the following but not limited too:

Test Automation Development & Execution

  • Develop, implement, and maintain automated test scripts for unit, integration, and end-to-end functional testing in accordance with Agile sprint schedules and program quality standards.
  • Ensure all automated test cases are executable by the end of each Agile sprint and delivered for incorporation into the Government-managed DevSecOps pipeline.
  • Support the program's Test-Driven Development (TDD) methodology by writing test cases prior to code development in collaboration with software developers.
  • Analyze the current state of test automation coverage and contribute to the Test Automation State Assessment Report and corresponding automation completion project plan.
  • Automate adjacent legacy test cases per Government-approved schedule to expand overall regression test coverage across the DEERS application portfolio.

Test Planning & Documentation

  • Develop and maintain Requirements Traceability Matrices (RTMs) at the end of each development cycle/sprint, demonstrating complete testing coverage of all requirements.
  • Assist in the preparation of UAT plans, test scenarios, and test scripts for Government and external partner acceptance testing activities.
  • Document all test activities, test case results, and defect findings within the Government-provided Test Case Management System.
  • Contribute to the preparation of Testing Reports, Release Notes, and Software Version Descriptions (SVDs) per release cadence requirements.

Quality Assurance & Defect Management

  • Participate in mandatory code reviews at three checkpoints: 50%, 75%, and 90% of development completion, ensuring conformance to quality standards.
  • Monitor and enforce hard quality thresholds.
  • Triage and track defects in JIRA; conduct analysis, determine if issues were previously identified, and attempt error replication prior to escalation to product teams.
  • Submit JIRA tickets prior to product team escalation; support weekly defect escalation reporting and report escalations to customers and the Government Product Owner at minimum weekly.

Security & Compliance Testing

  • Support application security scanning activities using Fortify, Sonatype, and BURP  as part of the pre-production release QA process.
  • Assist in ensuring code scan results are reviewed and documented prior to each production release, when rule packs/STIGs change, and on an as-needed basis.

Section 508 / Accessibility Testing

  • Conduct accessibility testing against WCAG 2.0 Level AA standards at planned intervals throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Assist in the preparation of Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs) including test results, remediation reports, and documentation of conformance levels for applicable deliverables.
  • Conduct Section 508 compliance testing and support reporting status to the Monthly Status Report (MSR).

Performance & Environment Testing

  • Support stress and load testing activities conducted in the ProdSim (Production Simulation) environment.
  • Assist in coordinating and supporting Disaster Recovery (DR) testing activities in collaboration with the technical and operations teams.
  • Support Independent Verification & Validation (IV&V) of all application changes in the UAT environment prior to production deployment.

Agile / DevSecOps Participation

  • Actively participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog grooming, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Maintain and update sprint-level defect tracking, test case completion status, and burn-down metrics in JIRA.
  • Adhere to the full deployment pipeline standards and quality gates at each stage.
  • Contribute QA metrics and status to the Monthly Quality Status Report (QSR)
