From our Lakewood, Colorado office, we execute projects across North America spanning from California to Florida and Canada down to Mexico. Our projects range in size from simple engineering studies or maintenance repairs to full-scale design of large facilities. ZAP operates at a fast-pace while providing a team-centric approach to our work.

About your role:

This is a hands-on, full-time managerial position with day-to-day duties that include overseeing, coordinating, and managing the project execution of engineering and construction projects.

Essential Duties and Major Responsibilities

  • Proposal process management
    • Assists the business development team with scoping projects for proposals.
    • Manages the proposal process for more complex projects.
    • Develops and maintains relationships with client project managers.
    • Prepare scope of work for subcontractors.
    • Develops project budgets, as well as reviews proposals for scope, content, and budgets.
  • Client communication and management
    • Manages client expectations for deliverables, schedules, and budgets and supervises the client communication of direct reports.
    • Provides project leadership with clients in meetings and communication, as well as provides client relationship assistance to the project managers in a project sponsor role.
    • Maintains relationships with clients and other external stakeholders.
    • Handles client billing and collection.
    • Escalates issues with management / sales team to solve problems.
    • Leads scheduled discussions to ensure client objectives are met.
    • Negotiates change requests and budget deviations for scope change.
    • Manages work to the proposed scope to ensure budget goals are met.
  • Internal team management & supervision
    • Manages internal resources to complete deliverables on time and budget and oversees deliverable QA process.
    • Fosters relationships with the team and internal management, as well as facilitates communication with the team and other stakeholders.
    • Manages procurement for equipment, material, and services, in addition to handling cost estimate management including planning, organization, and review.
    • Maintains relationships with directors and management.
    • Oversees deliverable workflow and planning, as well as provides project leadership with the internal team and coordinates direct report resource load and work assignments.
    • Leads internal meetings for coordination and planning the work.
  • Project Reporting
    • Manages accounting and internal reporting tasks, assists the team with earned value management reporting and provides weekly status report review and editing with input from the team.
    • Escalates issues with management to facilitate problem solving.
  • External stakeholder communication and management
    • Manages vendor, contractor, permitting jurisdiction, and other external stakeholder communications.
    • Contractor interface during construction bidding.
    • Maintains contractor interface during construction biding, as well as manages the vendor/supplier relationship during bidding.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.

Work Hours:

Company Hours

This position works 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Hours vary and are dependent on business needs.

40 Hour Work Week

Monday through Friday, Hours may vary with the workload.

Evenings/Weekends/OT

As needed to satisfy the requirements of the position.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required. Preferably an Engineering degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Structural or Electrical.
  • Project Management Professional or Professional Engineering Licenses required.

Type of Experience Needed to be Successful

  • Minimum of 3-years’ relevant experience in technical project management or comparable technical leadership position required (5-years preferred).

Specialized Skills

  • Intermediate communication (written and verbal) skills, to deliver more complex information effectively.
  • Intermediate problem-solving skills to be able to manage complex tasks and work through to solution with little guidance and direction.
  • Intermediate awareness of your own tasks, and how it impacts the team and deliverables.
  • Basic leadership skills and some general experience leading work groups or task forces in specific projects.
  • Expert user of technology and software required to execute daily tasks.
  • Project scheduling software knowledge / scheduling techniques, MS Office Suite, Navisworks.
  • Basic relationship skills with the team, clients, and stakeholders, occasionally needs assistance with managing relationships.
  • Must have a valid, active driver’s license and ability to maintain a good driving record.

Supervisory Expectations:

  • The position has immediate oversight of team members most of the time performing the same or directly related work as those the position leads.

Independence of Action

  • Supervisor/manager monitors work progress; incumbent follows precedents and procedures and may set priorities and organizes work within general guidelines established by supervisor/manager.
