Summary: The Project Manager at Salas O’Brien leads technical teams, oversees project schedules, maintains budgets, and manages risk to accommodate project scope changes. The preferred candidate is a detail-oriented engineer with project management experience in the federal or aerospace sectors.
Essential Functions
- Successfully manages assigned projects to meet contract requirements and client expectations facilitated by Salas O’Brien’s core values.
- Effectively communicates plans, statuses, and deliverables with client personnel (Contracting Officer and CO Representative) and project stakeholders, including site personnel and facilities operations and management.
- Makes decisions independently and represents Salas O’Brien with customer contacts to plan, coordinate, and manage projects while resolving conflicts.
- Understands each project scope, goals, and constraints. Understands and visualizes the customer’s goals and expectations. Seeks clarity where client requirements and customer expectations are not clear.
- Communicate with all project stakeholder as necessary to successfully complete projects on-time and within budget.
- Manages project team meetings and Owner/Architect/Contractor meetings.
- Manages internal cross discipline coordination, primarily between in-office mechanical/electrical/plumbing (MEP) and civil/environmental staff and other Salas O’Brien and external teaming partner/subcontractor/subconsultants.
- Generates project reports using Salas O’Brien-provided hardware and software.
- Manages meeting minutes from meetings for both internal and external discussions.
- Develops and maintains project schedules (Gantt chart format in Microsoft Project or Smartsheet)
- Performs quality control oversight throughout the project.
- In partnership with other Salas O’Brien staff including the Project Management Office, provides direction to project team members and consultants that ensure their work meets client expectations.
- Leads and attends monthly PM reporting meetings.
- Establishes a tailored project management plan (PMP) for each project.
- Develops, reviews, and continually maintains the budget and schedule on each project.
- Maintains compliance with project specific standards, practices, and quality expectations as documented by clients and Salas O’Brien procedures.
- Supervises and provides performance feedback to peers and subordinates.
- Ensures information identified as sensitive is handled in a secure manner.
- Promotes and represents the firm in a professional manner.

Qualifications
- Minimum of an ABET accredited Bachelor of Science in engineering. Professional Engineer (PE) registration is preferred.
- Minimum seven (7) years technical experience in an engineering/construction environment.
- Minimum five (5) years of project management experience (federal or aerospace experience preferred).
- Proficient in project management disciplines, including critical path, negotiation, cost control, cost estimating, risk management, contract management, and communication.
- Working knowledge of earned value management (EVM) reporting and invoicing.
- Project management certification preferred (for example, PMP or IAPM).
- Proficient with Microsoft 365, Windows, and SharePoint/Teams.
- Proficiency with engineering software applications preferred, including Bluebeam, CAD, Revit, and Creo.

- Valid/unrestricted Real ID driver license
- Current US Passport
Work Authorization/Security Clearance
- Must be a US Citizen for security clearance requirements.
- Active/Interim or ability to obtain a secret clearance.
Work Environment
Most work is performed in an office environment. Occasional visits to customer locations to perform in-person meetings and presentations are required. Client sites include campuses, military installations, and industrial/aerospace facilities. Air travel and work at client sites may be required.
Compensation: $160k-$170k
Travel
Position requires travel to client sites . Some attendance at conferences in the U.S. may be required on infrequent occasions.

- Site walk-downs and visual observations of existing conditions at facilities.
- Some sites may require properly wearing or donning company or site-provided personnel protective equipment. No confined space access is permitted.
- Inspections and construction support often involves climbing ladders or stairs and entering limited access areas, including roofs, basements, crawl spaces, and utility tunnels. Investigations at job sites can also require considerable walking.
Regarding project schedules, yes. I don't recommend we hire anyone who can't at least create their own project schedule, let alone be 100% reliant on others to do the updates for them.
