Coordinate detailed design, build, and integration schedules for neutral-atom quantum computing hardware and research projects. Align physics, optics, software, systems, and hardware engineering teams; track risks and action items; facilitate review cadences; identify bottlenecks; and document lessons learned to improve future integration, scheduling, and resource allocation.
At Atom Computing, we build quantum computers using arrays of optically trapped neutral atoms that will empower customers to achieve unprecedented computational breakthroughs. Join a world-class team of scientists, engineers, and business professionals to advance the state-of-the-art in quantum computing.
We are seeking a Project Engineer who will support operation and upgrades of existing neutral atom quantum computing hardware as well as a portfolio of research projects that advance the Atom Computing roadmap.
Responsibilities
- Own detailed design, build, and integration schedule, coordinating with program management to ensure on-time milestone completion.
- Facilitate cross-functional technical alignment and daily workflow coordination across physics, optics, software, systems, and hardware engineering teams to drive trapped-neutral-atom computer build and integration milestones.
- Manage program tracking frameworks—including risk registers, rolling action item logs (RAIL), and review cadences—to identify technical bottlenecks and mitigate delays early.
- Capture and document lessons learned throughout hardware integration and testing phases to refine future scheduling, resource allocation, and workflow processes.
Experience & Education
- BS or MS in engineering, physics, optics, or a related field. Advanced degree a plus.
- 1+ years’ experience in product engineering, systems engineering, quantum, and/or R&D project management experience at multi-disciplinary, deep tech companies.
Qualifications
- Experience operating autonomously across cross-functional teams, demonstrating critical thinking and thought leadership.
- Expertise in project organization, multi-tasking, and tracking complex hardware deliverables.
- Track record of proposing continuous process improvements without compromising engineering design standards or schedule commitments.
- Strong technical acumen and analytical problem-solving skills applied to complex, low-volume, or R&D integrated hardware systems.
- Excellent collaborative mindset and interpersonal skills tailored for fast-paced deep-tech environments.
- Clear written documentation and verbal communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proficiency with project management and technical collaboration tools such as Jira, Confluence, Smartsheet, or MS Project.
