The Project Engineer will be located onsite in Pueblo, CO and reports to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager. This role drives the end-to-end planning and execution of manufacturing capital and facility projects — translating program and production requirements into scoped, scheduled, and delivered outcomes. With 3–5 years of hands-on experience spanning industrial project engineering, manufacturing systems integration, and automation or controls context, this individual serves as the connective tissue between Manufacturing Engineering, Automation & Controls, Process Engineering, Safety, and external contractors — ensuring that physical manufacturing environments and production line buildouts are delivered on time, on budget, and ready to run.

In this role, the essential functions are:

  • Translate manufacturing and program requirements into clearly scoped Statements of Work (SOWs), defining deliverables, responsibilities, timelines, and acceptance criteria for capital, facility, and production line projects.
  • Build, maintain, and actively drive project schedules — identifying critical path activities, tracking milestones, flagging risks, and ensuring on-time delivery across concurrent manufacturing buildout projects including automated production lines, test stands, energetic operations facility upgrades, and capability expansion efforts.
  • Coordinate and oversee the installation and commissioning of manufacturing equipment, automation systems, robotic work cells, and controls infrastructure — serving as the on-site technical point of contact during construction and equipment installation phases.
  • Track and manage equipment procurement, delivery, and installation status, maintaining accurate logs and communicating proactively with project teams, engineering stakeholders, and leadership.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, field crews, and internal engineering teams to ensure scope, schedule, and quality requirements are understood and met; attend site walks, owner meetings, and coordination calls as the reliable point of contact for project status and technical clarifications.
  • Maintain complete project documentation including SOWs, submittals, RFIs, meeting minutes, change orders, progress reports, and equipment commissioning records.
  • Support procurement and contract administration processes, reviewing bids and scopes against program and manufacturing requirements; contribute project controls insight and lessons learned to future facility and manufacturing investments.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Manufacturing Engineering, Automation & Controls, Process Engineering, Safety, and Compliance to ensure manufacturing infrastructure projects are built to operational and regulatory requirements — including OSHA, ITAR, and hazardous environment standards.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline with 3 years of experience in manufacturing project engineering, industrial project engineering, or a related field OR 7 years of hands-on manufacturing or industrial project engineering experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Demonstrated experience translating technical or operational requirements into Statements of Work, scopes of work, or building plans in a manufacturing, industrial, or construction setting.
  • Proven ability to build and manage project schedules, track deliverables, and drive accountability across subcontractors, equipment vendors, and internal engineering teams on concurrent projects.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing systems, automation equipment, and controls infrastructure — sufficient to coordinate equipment procurement, installation, and commissioning activities with technical engineering teams.
  • Experience tracking equipment procurement, delivery, and installation within a project controls or manufacturing project management context.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey technical requirements clearly to contractors, engineers, and leadership stakeholders.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Strong self-starter with the ability to work independently and as a contributing team member in a mission-driven environment.

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft Project, Smartsheets, or similar scheduling and project controls tools with demonstrated use in managing multi-disciplinary manufacturing or capital project portfolios.
  • Familiarity with PLC-based automation systems, robotic work cells, or controls integration — including coordination of installation and commissioning in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with defense, aerospace, or energetic manufacturing facility construction requirements, including OSHA, ITAR, and hazardous environment standards.

Travel, Physical and Government Mandated Requirements

  • Travel up to 15%, including the possibility of overnights within the continental United States.
  • Ability to lift, move, or carry items or equipment up to 50 pounds. Comfortable standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching in a manufacturing environment; use of personal protective equipment required.
  • Candidates must meet all eligibility requirements to obtain and maintain applicable state and federal explosives licenses, including minimum age requirements (21 and over), a drug-free workplace in compliance with the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988 (41 U.S.C. §§ 8101–8106), Executive Order 12564 (Drug-Free Federal Workplace), applicable Department of Defense directives including DoD Instruction 1010.09 and DFARS 252.226-7003, and successful completion of any legally required background investigations.
