The Job At-A-Glance: 

Q2 is seeking a Principal Engineer to join our growing Digital Banking engineering organization in Austin, TX. As a PE, you will wear multiple hats; you will scale across the team to provide architectural direction and guidance; you will advise Sr. Leadership on technical direction, vision and best practices; you will mentor Software Engineers across multiple teams and disciplines; you will dive deep and solve the hardest technical problems while setting templates for others to follow. 

Responsibilities and Expectations: 

  • Lead architecture, design, implementation and deployment of large-scale critical and complex financial applications, being responsible for all aspects of solutions end-to-end, through full stack software development  

  • Skilled in design of technology solutions focused on simplicity, sustainability, scalability, and performance. Ability to dive deep into code and solve the toughest problems. Technically fearless.  

  • Fluent in the latest technologies including cloud, frameworks and data engines. Able to acquire knowledge as needed.  

  • Is a recognized leader and mentor. Is routinely sought out to conduct design and code reviews. Provides training and guidance for best practices. Understands technical and behavioral requirements/expectations to grow in an engineer’s career.  

  • Possess and insists on the highest standards for herself/himself and others. Does not settle for half-baked solutionsSets standards for development practices including quality of code, architecture, testing among others. 

  • Leads through change. Solves complicated problems without organizational barriers.  

  • Provides input and direction to the implementation of technology solutions. Able to review and provide candid yet effective feedback. Disseminates system knowledge to others. Empowers others to succeed. Gives credit when credit is due.   

  • Ability to influence decision making within and across consumers of primary technical responsibility. Participates in definition, planning and execution of strategic technology direction 

  • Ability to lead ad hoc teams composed of individuals from different departments, disciplines, or areas of expertise within an organization. It involves collaborating across functional boundaries to achieve shared goals and deliver organizational outcomes that require diverse skill sets and perspectives. 

  • Leads an organization through being accountable for the entire lifecycle of a service or system within an organization. This includes all aspects of the service, such as its development, deployment, performance, reliability, maintenance, and eventual retirement. 

  • Ability to effectively communicate highly technical information to technical and non-technical audiences across teams and external resources  

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field and a minimum of 15 years of related experience; or an advanced degree in Computer Science or a related field with 10+ years of experience; or equivalent related work experience 

  • Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages. Java, Golang, C#, Javascript preferred. 

  • Strong expertise in cloud infrastructure such as AWS, Azure or GCP, and cloud-native products and services 

  • Experience in setting technical strategies and direction, including build vs buy decisions, technical due diligence and technology bakeoffs 

  • Experience in scaling solutions to millions of concurrent users.
