As a Principal Software Engineer on Azure Storage, you will help define the technical direction for some of the most complex and business-critical components of Azure Storage. You will drive architectural decisions, lead the development of breakthrough capabilities, and deliver continuous improvements that enhance reliability, scalability, performance, consistency, and debuggability at hyperscale. This role offers the opportunity to work with the latest server technologies and highly distributed systems while partnering across teams to solve challenging engineering problems that directly influence the future of cloud storage. Your technical leadership will help shape services that support billions of transactions and massive amounts of customer data worldwide.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test and support features, experiences and solutions for highly scalable services
  • Develop high quality secure and compliant solutions
  • Support highly available services used by millions of users on a daily basis
  • Provide technical leadership across multiple projects, aligning engineering priorities with business objectives and driving measurable impact through innovation and execution excellence
  • Infuse AIOps practices to drive productivity, operational excellence, observability, incident detection, accurate root-cause analysis and mitigation

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 15+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of experience designing, building and running large scale and highly available Cloud services or distributed systems.

Software Engineering IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $165,600 - $296,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $220,800 - $331,200 per year.
