Meet Fetch Engineering

At Fetch, engineering is driven by curiosity, ownership, and a bias toward action. We operate in complex problem spaces where the right answer is not always clear, and success depends on adaptability, critical thinking, and informed decision-making. Our engineers are comfortable navigating ambiguity, understanding tradeoffs, gathering context, and turning uncertainty into progress while maintaining high technical standards.

Engineers at Fetch take pride in building reliable, scalable systems that serve millions of users. You will contribute directly to the codebase, collaborate closely with cross-functional partners, and help shape best practices that elevate the quality of our work. We foster a culture of mentorship and collaboration, where engineers grow by learning from one another and holding a high bar for quality, reliability, and impact.

About the Role:
Fetch is entering a pivotal phase where user lifecycle growth is the company’s north star for 2026. The Growth Engineering organization owns the consumer-facing systems and product experiences that drive acquisition, activation, engagement, retention, and reactivation across the Fetch ecosystem. This includes areas like personalization, notifications, recommendations, experimentation, onboarding, monetization, and other core growth surfaces that directly influence user behavior and business outcomes.

As a Principal Engineer in Growth, you will operate as a senior technical leader working at the intersection of product, engineering, data, and user experience. You will help shape the next generation of Fetch’s growth experiences by building scalable systems that improve discovery, engagement, conversion, and retention for millions of users.

This is a highly hands-on role for a product-minded engineer who is equally comfortable driving architecture decisions, partnering deeply with Product and Design, and building systems that directly impact customer experience and company growth. We are looking for engineers who have owned consumer-facing product systems at scale and can connect technical decisions to measurable business outcomes.

This is a full-time role that can be held from one of our US offices or remotely in the United States.

What you’ll do at Fetch (Role Responsibilities):
  • Build Consumer-Facing Growth Experiences
    • Design and evolve the systems and product surfaces that power user engagement across Fetch, including personalization, notifications, recommendations, onboarding flows, loyalty experiences, gamification, and retention-driving features.
  • Drive Experimentation and Product Iteration
    • Help teams move quickly by building and improving experimentation capabilities that enable rapid testing, iteration, and measurement across the user lifecycle. Balance experimentation velocity with long-term product quality and platform health.
  • Own Product-Oriented Technical Strategy
    • Partner closely with Product, Design, Data, and Growth stakeholders to translate business goals into scalable consumer experiences. Make thoughtful tradeoffs between user experience, speed, reliability, and long-term architecture.
  • Improve Engagement, Retention, and Conversion
    • Design systems that directly influence user behavior and improve growth metrics such as engagement, activation, conversion, retention, and monetization. Use data and experimentation to continuously improve the customer experience.
  • Lead Cross-Team Technical Direction
    • Influence technical direction across multiple teams and help establish consistent approaches for growth systems, experimentation, personalization, and engagement infrastructure.
  • Raise the Engineering Bar
    • Mentor senior engineers and technical leaders across the organization. Promote strong engineering fundamentals, pragmatic decision making, operational excellence, and product-minded engineering culture.
  • Accelerate Developer and Product Velocity
    • Champion tools, workflows, and engineering practices that improve product development speed and experimentation efficiency, including AI-assisted development workflows, observability improvements, and scalable internal tooling.
  • Model Technical Excellence
    • Lead by example through thoughtful architecture, pragmatic decision making, and strong engineering fundamentals. Promote a culture of ownership, accountability, and measurable impact.

In your Toolbox (Minimum Requirements):
  • 10+ years of experience building and scaling consumer-facing products and user experiences
  • Strong experience building product experiences that directly influence engagement, discovery, activation, retention, conversion, or monetization
  • Experience working on consumer growth areas such as search, recommendations, personalization, notifications, onboarding, feeds, messaging, experimentation, or lifecycle experiences
  • Proven ability to partner closely with Product, Design, Data, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver measurable customer and business outcomes
  • Experience building and evolving high-scale consumer web or mobile applications
  • Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction and product decisions across multiple teams without direct authority
  • Strong product and user experience instincts, including thoughtful decision making around experimentation, usability, performance, and long-term product quality
  • Strong engineering fundamentals and ability to build reliable, scalable, and maintainable systems
  • Strong programming skills and ability to operate effectively across the stack when needed
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field. Equivalent practical experience may be considered

Nice to haves/Bonus Points (Preferred Requirements):
  • Experience building or scaling experimentation systems and running large-scale A/B testing programs
  • Experience working on lifecycle engagement experiences such as notifications, messaging, recommendations, personalization, or retention systems
  • Experience working on growth, retention, loyalty, marketplace, social, or monetization-focused consumer products
  • Experience supporting high-scale consumer mobile or web experiences
  • Familiarity with analytics, experimentation, and personalization systems that help teams better understand and improve user behavior
  • Experience improving product iteration speed and experimentation velocity through tooling, workflows, or internal product capabilities
  • Ability to clearly communicate product, technical, and user experience tradeoffs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
