Our interns partner with teams across EchoStar working to drive our latest game-changing innovation. Our internship is a 10 week, in-person experience that is paid hourly with eligible overtime. Interns are given a business project(s) to complete over the summer and present their results to leadership and their peers. EchoStar provides each intern with a manager to support them with the execution of their project.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
EchoStar has an exciting opportunity for a Platform Engineering Intern - AI & Automation supporting our device and telecom platform team. This internship offers hands-on experience applying AI, automation, and process optimization to real-world platform engineering challenges in a production telecom environment. You will work closely with platform, device, and operations engineers to enhance existing processes, implement intelligent automation, and support initiatives across SIM lifecycle management and device certification. This is an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to large-scale, mission-critical systems that support wireless devices and services.
Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in designing and implementing AI-driven solutions to improve new and existing platform engineering processes (e.g., analytics dashboards, anomaly detection, decision support, workflow optimization)
• Support automation efforts across platform operations, including scripting, tooling, and process enhancements
• Help analyze platform data to identify inefficiencies, risks, and opportunities for improvement
• Contribute to platform enhancements related to reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency
• Gain hands-on exposure to SIM lifecycle workflows, provisioning processes, and device onboarding
• Support device and SIM certification processes, including documentation, validation steps, and tooling improvements
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as Device Engineering, Operations, Product, and Security
• Document solutions, processes, and learnings to support knowledge sharing and long-term scalability

Skills, Experience and Requirements
Education and Experience:

• GPA 3.3 or above
• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, in a related field of study
• Must have 60 credit hours completed by May 2026

Skills and Qualifications:

• Interest in AI/ML applications, automation, and systems engineering
• Familiarity with at least one programming or scripting language (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript, Bash)
• Basic understanding of APIs, data pipelines, or cloud-based platforms is a plus
• Strong analytical skills and a willingness to learn complex, ambiguous systems
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced engineering environment
• Exposure to AI/ML concepts (e.g., RAG, LLMs, anomaly detection, predictive analytics)
• Experience with automation tools, CI/CD pipelines, or infrastructure-as-code
• Basic understanding of mobile networks, SIMs, eSIMs, or device certification workflows
• Familiarity with SQL, dashboards, or observability tools

Salary Ranges
Compensation: $18.00/Hour - $24.00/Hour
