The Team You Will Join
This Product Owner (PO) is focused on the MetLife Pet Insurance Agile Release Train (ART) within U.S. Group Benefits. This role will be accountable for delivering Product Owner responsibilities in the areas of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Automations, and Claims processing as well as other related duties to support MetLife Pet IT and Product teams. This role will support Agile Delivery of these capabilities on the platforms and applications within MetLife Pet Insurance.
The Opportunity
The Product Owner (PO) for Automation, AI, and Claims at MetLife Pet Insurance plays a pivotal role in driving the strategic and operational success of all solutions that leverage AI, ML, and automations to improve customer experience and operational team efficiencies. This includes automations for claims systems as well as chatbot and IVR systems, and all other customer-facing as well as internal AI/ML use cases to enhance customer and operational team experiences. This role is embedded within a SAFe Agile framework and interfaces with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, intelligent, and customer-centric solutions.
The PO will be responsible for developing and refining features in collaboration with business, IT Engineering, ARTs, and stakeholders. The position requires multitasking and aligning priorities based on business needs. The PO is responsible for prioritizing the stories to be developed by the agile team so the team can incrementally develop valuable solutions that maintain conceptual and technical integrity. Individuals in this role are responsible for working in a team of agile teams that contribute to larger solutions. While they collaborate with their agile team members to define stories, the PO has the responsibility for prioritizing the Team Backlog to streamline execution.
The PO has the responsibility for accepting the team's work as done. As such, you help the team realize its commitment to quality. You provide complete visibility into processes, priorities, and workflow, and ensure it is sequenced correctly. You create shared understanding and clarity to reduce operational friction and provide the team with a clear view of their environment. This is a critical role with significant accountability to build and manage relationships and responsibilities across businesses stakeholders and within the team.
POs work closely with the Scrum Master, Product Management, Customers, Business Owners, team members and other stakeholders to create viable and sustainable plans and constantly seek feedback from multiple stakeholders and incorporate it into the solutions. POs share accountability with Product Managers for delivery outcomes and make decisions to solve product related problems.
You lead the creation of business scenarios and supporting details for stories and related testing, so they are clearly understood by fellow team members. As needed, you will work with Product Managers, to slice epics into features, and with the team as a content expert, partner to create and prioritize stories. POs strategically solution at the team level in service of the broader ART-level solution, and do so by partnering with Product Management and other Product Owners within the ART. POs are effective at helping the team deliver on its commitments by: working with others to actively explore solution options, ensuring decisions are taken by those with accountability for delivering outcomes, and dedicating their effort to delivering value, that meet the needs of MetLife's customers and our business goals.

What You Need to Succeed (Required Qualifications)
  • Knowledge of software development for enterprise scale applications, including experience with products using artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning models (ML), and automations/RPA.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Exhibit strong collaboration and ability to engage across multiple functions and business units.
  • Ability to lead, motivate and support initiative team(s).
  • Ability to influence within own team and with partners and senior management.
  • Identify risks to project success and recommend course of action to prevent risk from negatively impacting agreed upon work and dates for delivery.
  • Effectively recognize when to escalate issues and options to senior management for resolution.

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills
  • Suggested 5 years of experience in a technology Product Owner or similar role
  • Knowledge and experience using a combination of Gen AI, LLMs, Agentic AI, Predictive Modeling, Recommendation Systems
  • Experience across desktop, web, and mobile applications
  • Exposure to SAFE Agile
  • High School diploma

Preferred
  • Professional experience with the insurance industry and insurance claims processing
  • Knowledge of current MetLife business processes, systems and operational areas
  • Knowledge of MetLife business structure, products, and end to end processes and outputs
  • A specific Bachelors or Advanced Degree related to the role or technology

The expected salary range for this position is $76,500 - $120,000.. This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
