Nourish is seeking a detailed and service-oriented Payroll Lead to join our Finance team and drive payroll compliance for our employees, including 3,500+ Registered Dieticians, across the U.S. In this position, you’ll take on and own complex financial processes, finding ways to evolve and enhance them on your quest toward utmost efficiency and accuracy. Communication and collaboration are the keys to success in this role, as you’ll work closely with both the Finance, People, Clinical Ops, Equity and Tax teams. We’ll also count on you to provide critical support for our employees and handle confidential concerns in a quick, effective way.
This person will report into our Controller and work closely with the Finance and People Teams.
This role is full-time and open to fully remote or in Nourish’s NYC office in the heart of Union Square.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and streamline our internal payroll and employee reimbursement processes end-to-end for enhanced efficiency, accuracy and compliance, helping develop our payroll department into a best-in-class function.
- Lead as a payroll and employee reimbursement thought-leader for cross-functional initiatives that impact areas of ownership.
- Collaborate closely with external vendors, including our benefits broker and tax advisors, to ensure seamless payroll and employee reimbursement operations.
- Conduct semi-monthly payroll processing and periodic employee reimbursements, ensuring all employees, taxes and other deductions are paid accurately.
- Resolve all payroll discrepancies, process adjustments, and answer employee inquiries on a timely basis.
- Maintain and conduct regular audits of payroll records and ensure data integrity within HRIS/payroll systems.
- Oversee compliance and stay updated and ensure adherence to all federal, state and local payroll-related laws, Department of Labor guidelines, and reporting requirements.
- Handle year-end tax reporting, including documents such as W2, W2C, 941X, 1099 and other annual reports.
- Support financial and 401k auditors by providing necessary documentation and assistance for payroll-related inquiries.
- A minimum of 5-7 years of payroll experience within the United States, with a particular focus on managing and processing complex payrolls involving diverse pay types (e.g., hourly, commission, bonuses, shift differentials, and retroactive pay) across multiple states, ensuring compliance with varying state and local tax laws and utilizing flexible pay codes to accommodate unique compensation structures.
- Comprehensive understanding of payroll regulations, tax laws, and labor legislation in the U.S. and throughout the Americas.
- Exceptional organizational skills and a meticulous eye for detail, ensuring the accuracy of all payroll calculations and data entries.
- Proficiency with ADP WFN and an advanced skill level in Excel/Google Sheets for managing complex datasets and financial analysis.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the proven ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, employees, and external partners.
- Strong analytical and innovative problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving payroll issues.
- The capability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, quickly adapting to changing priorities while maintaining high standards of payroll management.
- Unwavering integrity and discretion in handling confidential information and sensitive payroll data.
- CPP certification highly regarded
