What you'll do

We're looking for a Mid Backend Engineer with solid experience in Java development to join our engineering team. You’ll be instrumental in building and maintaining the backend services that support Clara’s financial products, collaborating across teams to deliver high-quality, scalable, and secure systems.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing, developing, and maintaining backend services using Java (Spring, Spring Boot)

  • Implementing and consuming RESTful APIs within a microservices architecture

  • Working with both relational (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, DynamoDB) databases

  • Integrating with event-driven systems using tools like Kafka and RabbitMQ

  • Contributing to and improving CI/CD processes and DevOps practices

  • Operating in a cloud environment such as AWS, GCP, or Azure

  • Participating in agile ceremonies and working in Scrum or Kanban teams

  • Writing maintainable, testable code and conducting peer reviews

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Must haves
  • 3–5 years of experience in backend development with Java, ideally with Spring/Spring Boot

  • Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and working in microservices environments

  • Proficiency in data modeling with relational and NoSQL databases

  • Understanding of event-driven architectures and message brokers like Kafka or RabbitMQ

  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps methodologies

  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure

  • Understanding of software testing methodologies (e.g., TDD, BDD)

  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a focus on code quality

  • Working proficiency in English and Spanish

  • Collaborative attitude and eagerness to grow in a fast-paced environment

Nice to haves
  • Experience designing or supporting event-driven or streaming systems

  • Exposure to system design and experience with scalable architectures

  • Previous involvement in architectural decisions

  • Knowledge of financial applications or fintech systems

  • Interest in using AI tools to streamline development or operations

Claridians in a hybrid mode split their time between working from the office, talking to or visiting customers, or working from home. This hits a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility about how to do this in a way that makes sense for each individual and team.

We don't enforce a minimum number of days for most roles, but you're expected to spend time at the office organically, and be at the office most days during your ramp-up or when required by your leader.
