Boom Supersonic’s mission is to make the world dramatically more accessible through a renaissance in supersonic flight. Boom is developing the Symphony supersonic engine, which powers the Overture supersonic airliner and the Superpower natural gas turbine for AI. Overture will fly at twice the speed of today’s subsonic jets over water and 50% faster over land with Boomless Cruise.

Every engine starts somewhere. Ours starts with SN0—the first Superpower prototype—and Sprint Core, our pathfinder hardware. Before we light the engine, before we collect data, before we optimize performance, we have to design it, detail it, and build it. That’s where you come in.


As an early-career Mechanical Engineer, you’ll begin by turning bold designs into precise, production-ready drawings for SN0. You’ll be in the shop during Sprint Core build, learning how hardware really comes together. And once you’ve earned context and credibility, you’ll design and own components and subsystems yourself. If you want to grow from detail-oriented contributor to full system owner—fast—this is your runway.


Role Overview

  • Create detailed manufacturing drawings for SN0 engine hardware, ensuring clarity, completeness, and producibility
  • Translate 3D CAD models into production-ready documentation with GD&T, tolerances, and inspection requirements
  • Partner closely with manufacturing engineers and machinists to resolve drawing questions and drive first-pass success
  • Support the hands-on build of Sprint Core—participating in assembly, troubleshooting, and real-time problem solving
  • Incorporate redlines and build feedback into updated designs and released documentation
  • Assist in developing test hardware, fixtures, and structural elements for engine testing
  • Build strong fundamentals in engine subsystems (fuel, oil, structures, accessories) through direct exposure to design and test
  • Progress into ownership of components and subsystems—taking hardware from concept through design, analysis, build, and test
  • Communicate clearly across design, manufacturing, and test teams to ensure alignment and execution

The Ideal Candidate

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • Strong command of mechanical fundamentals: statics, dynamics, fluids, thermals, and material
  • Proficiency in CAD for part modeling, assemblies, and drawing creation
  • Working knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stack-ups (or a strong desire to master them quickly)
  • Experience through internships, co-ops, or projects that involved building or testing real hardware
  • Comfort spending time in a machine shop, assembly bay, or test environment—not just behind a screen
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in producing clean, accurate documentation
  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic and ambition, complemented by effective collaboration skills in a team setting
  • Excels in a high-energy, independent, and challenging work environment

Compensation

The Base Salary Range for this position is $85,000 - $107,000 per year. Actual salaries will vary based on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Boom’s total rewards package for employees. Other rewards may include long term incentives/equity, a flexible PTO policy, and many other progressive benefits.
