A Machine Learning Engineer I is an entry-level role focused on supporting the development, implementation, and maintenance of machine learning models and systems. This position involves assisting in the preparation and analysis of data sets, implementing and testing machine learning algorithms, and contributing to the integration of ML models into production environments. The role requires collaboration with ML Engineers II/III to grasp the intricacies of machine learning projects and to contribute to the technical framework and strategy. Working with diverse and complex data sets, particularly in domains relevant to the business's focus, the ML Engineer I helps translate business challenges into data-driven solutions and ensures the reliability and efficiency of machine learning systems.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, development, and maintenance of machine learning models and algorithms.
  • Support data preprocessing, cleaning, and augmentation to prepare data sets for machine learning.
  • Implement machine learning algorithms using programming languages such as Python, and frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch.
  • Collaborate with ML Engineer IIs/IIIs to understand project requirements and machine learning strategies.
  • Participate in evaluating and improving the performance of machine learning models.
  • Contribute to integrating ML models into production systems, ensuring scalability and efficiency.
  • Conduct experiments for well-defined problems and test to validate model predictions and to iterate on model design.
  • Help in documenting machine learning processes, models, and outcomes for technical and non[1]technical stakeholders.
  • Engage in code reviews and actively participate in team meetings to share knowledge and insights.
  • Troubleshoot issues in deployed machine learning systems.
  • Stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in machine learning and artificial intelligence

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field. Equivalent practical experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Basic understanding of machine learning concepts and algorithms.
  • Proficiency in Python and familiarity with machine learning libraries and frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with large data sets and understand data structures and algorithms.
  • Eagerness to quickly learn and apply new technologies and methodologies in machine learning and AI.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present complex ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and independently.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with data processing and visualization tools.
  • Understanding of cloud computing services, such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure, and experience deploying ML models in a cloud environment.
  • Knowledge of data privacy and security principles.
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) practices.
  • Experience in healthcare and health insurance data processing

Mental and Physical Demands

  • This position will be exposed mainly to an indoor/office environment and will be expected to work in or around computers and printers.
  • The nature of the work is sedentary, and the employee will be sitting most of the time.
  • Essential physical functions of the job include typing and the repetitive motion to utilize computer software and hardware continuously throughout the day.
  • Essential mental functions of this position include concentrating on analytical tasks, reading information, and verbal/written communication to others continuously throughout the day.
