Job Summary
The Peer Support Specialist Lead will provide individual and group supervision (in addition to program supervisor of respective programs), recognize, and mitigate ethical dilemmas as they arise, provide timely feedback, and develop written protocols to ensure a safe environment for peers in collaboration with Supervisors that peers directly report to. They will collect data and conduct program evaluation and quality improvement, reporting, sharing results with policymakers and community leaders. This role will work with other leaders across the system to further develop peer support services offered internally and externally.
Essential Functions:
  • Assist patients in completing paperwork and any grant specific documentation requirements. Perform outreach and engagement into local evidence-based treatment for people experiencing substance misuse. Create meaningful and lasting relationships with individuals with substance misuse seeking treatment and understand their needs to assist them in being linked to the appropriate treatment resources. Facilitate peer recovery support services, in a group and/or individual settings. Assist participants with the creation of a personal recovery plan and/or provide resources to reduce barriers to care. (30%)
  • Provide individual and group supervision for Peer Support Specialist I & II (in addition to program supervisor), collect data and conduct program evaluation and quality improvement, reporting, sharing results with policymakers + community leaders. This role will work with other leaders across the system to further develop peer support services offered internally and externally. (70%)

Education:
  • No High School Diploma and/or No GED

Work Experience:
  • Have a minimum of five years of sustained recovery from lived experience with substance use and/or mental health disorders (longer period preferred). Required and
  • Preferably a person who has utilized medication assisted treatment/recovery and who is actively participating in his/her chosen pathway of recovery. Required and
  • Completion of minimum 100 hours of peer recovery coach training or willingness to complete this training within 6 months of employment. Required and
  • CPFS certification or NCPRSS certification. Required and
  • Three years' experience in peer support position. Required and
  • Preferred 1-3 years of supervision experience (doesn’t have to be specific to peers).

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Strong, effective, responsive communication skill. Excellent customer service.
    • Organized and attention to details.
    • Ability to summarize the positive effects personal recovery experience, and willing to share this experience in a way that would be helpful to others.
    • Must honor, support and accept all pathways to recovery.
    • Basic computer skills, including ability to use Microsoft Office Programs such as Outlook.
    • Word and Excel and to operate a copier and scanner. Cross-cultural skills, and experience with culturally diverse populations.
    • Ability to supervise and problem solve with others in recovery.
    • Ability to review data and guide quality improvement efforts.
