Job Description SummaryThe Tooling Method & Design Main Project Engineer will join the Tooling team within Engineering department, who is responsible for technical studies and design of tools for transportation and erection of main pieces of equipment constituting a hydropower plant (embedded parts, turbine, generator, valves and hydromechanical).
He or she will take the responsibility on project to define the methods for handling, transport and support Turbine and Generator components for projects. It means he will be in charge to collect the information from site, COEs, project team, in order to imagine the tools to do the erection and maintenance operation according to the relevant procedure. He will have to perform design and calculation notes of part of the tooling he will have defined by following a structured design process. For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $89,300.00 and $148,700.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. Essential Responsibilities
- For a given project in execution, collecting the information from site / Project Engineering Manager / logistics / Center of excellence to prepare the synopsis (sequence of installation/maintenance) and lashing (transport) drawings
- Imagining the erection and maintenance operation according to the procedure (done by site team) with the objective to use as much as possible standard tools and according to the EHS rules.
- Perform the calculation and the design of the tools according to the CoE’s Design Practices and with the validation of the tooling principal engineer
- Represent the Tooling Center of Excellence (CoE) in front of the Project Team: System Integrator, CoE main project engineers, Supply Chain and Construction & Commissioning
- Coordinate within the Tooling CoE the calculation and design of the full list of tools identified during synopsis phase (detailed transportation & erection sequence of the power plant) – fulfilling planning, cost and safety requirement.
- Designing specific tools (3D, calculation note, fabrication drawings, instruction manuals)
- Identifying the need of access on our machine.
- Identifying the need of specific packing and specifying it.
- Preparing the lifting drawing.
- Stamp the tooling design whenever needed for our North American project (US stamp mandatory)
- Pushing the synopsis BOM in the GE product life management system.
- Participating when required to the design of the tool or of the piece itself, in order to make implemented the tooling requirement.
- Being the entry point for site team for any request of support.
- Coordinating the synopsis task with sub-contractor or technician.
- Identifying on market standard tools.
Required Qualifications/Characteristics:
- Bachelor degree from an accredited university in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent knowledge or experience
- Significant experience (>5 years) in mechanical design - US stamp Mandatory
- Experience in design of lifting equipment and access platform or significant experience on site
- Good knowledge of CAD and calculation
- Excellent written & verbal English skills for international communications
- Proven ability to work with cross-functional and global teams
- Strong interpersonal skills, proven leadership skills and a positive energy
