The Brighton Fire Rescue District is expanding and seeking dedicated and passionate professionals to join our fire family. We are looking for individuals who will embrace our Mission, Vision, and Values. Our team members are highly trained professionals committed to positively impacting those we serve through exceptional service.
Our vision is to be a visionary fire department where our people are valued, supported, and empowered to be servant leaders. We take pride in serving our community and upholding our values: Community, Integrity, Courage, Pride, and Compassion. Brighton Fire Rescue District protects 150 square miles across Adams and Weld counties, serving the City of Brighton, the Town of Wattenberg, and parts of Commerce City, Henderson, and Lochbuie. We are an independent special district governed by our own Fire Board of Directors.
Brighton Fire Rescue District is seeking an IT Systems Administrator who is ready to grow beyond basic help-desk support into full systems and network administration. You do not need to know our entire Microsoft cloud and Cisco Meraki environment on day one. You do need strong troubleshooting skills, a customer-service mindset, exposure to Microsoft cloud technologies, and a desire to keep learning.
You’ll support approximately 125 users across eight District facilities, with additional stations and a new Headquarters planned as the District grows. Our environment is cloud-first, built around Microsoft 365, Azure, Cisco Meraki, Veeam Cloud, and other critical District systems. You’ll be part of a small, hands-on IT team responsible for the full range of technology support. There is no separate help desk, so you may troubleshoot a printer one minute and work through a network or cloud issue the next. The expectation is to take ownership of issues and see them through from start to finish.
This position is designed to grow into a Senior IT Systems Administrator. We are intentionally hiring for potential as well as experience and will provide training, mentorship, and a defined path for advancement.
Where We Are Going:
Brighton Fire Rescue District has modernized its technology environment significantly in recent years, including moving to a cloud-first architecture, rebuilding the network on Cisco Meraki, and expanding the use of automation and AI. We want to continue building on that progress. This role offers the opportunity to improve systems, explore new technology, automate processes, and help shape how the District uses technology as it grows.
We’re looking for someone who wants to help build what comes next, not simply maintain what already exists.
Who Thrives in this Role
Technical skills matter, but on a small team, attitude, judgment, work ethic, and how you work with others matter just as much. Technical knowledge can be developed; these qualities are harder to teach.
The person who thrives here demonstrates:
  • Curiosity. You want to understand how things work, keep learning, and are comfortable saying, “I don’t know yet, but I’ll find out.”
  • Ownership. You solve the immediate problem, but you also want to understand why it happened and how to prevent it from happening again.
  • Teamwork. There is no “not my ticket.” You share the workload, communicate well, and step in where needed.
  • Integrity. You can be trusted with sensitive systems and information, follow through on commitments, and speak up when something goes wrong.
  • Humility and customer service. You ask for help when needed, accept feedback, and explain technology clearly and respectfully to employees with widely varying levels of technical experience.
  • Tenacity. You work through difficult problems methodically rather than giving up or settling for a temporary workaround.
These expectations reflect the District’s values of Pride, Community, Integrity, Courage, and Compassion, and apply to how our administrative teams serve the District just as much as they apply to emergency operations.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The following is an overview of the primary duties and general responsibilities for this position and shall not be considered an all-inclusive list:
  • Troubleshoot and repair Windows 11 computers and end-user hardware independently: desktops, laptops, printers, scanners, peripherals, and conference/day-room AV.
  • Support iPhone and iPad users.
  • Work support requests through the PS Trax ticketing system from intake to documented resolution.
  • Provide friendly, patient support to administrative staff, fire prevention personnel, and shift-based crews.
  • Document your work and fixes so someone else can follow them.
  • Look for ways to improve our systems and methods, suggest them, and help implement them.
  • Participate in the IT budget review and provide input alongside your supervisor.
  • Perform routine Microsoft 365 and Teams administration: users, licenses, mailboxes, and groups.
  • Manage Entra ID user and group lifecycle, MFA, and single sign-on issues; provision and remove users in the District's SSO-connected cloud applications.
  • Use Intune to assign users and devices to groups, perform Autopilot resets, deploy existing apps and profiles, and image and provision Windows devices.
  • Enroll, reset, locate, and retire mobile devices via Apple Business Manager and Intune, and troubleshoot cellular connectivity issues.
  • Support iPads for the support apparatus and get other networked field and IoT devices connected to Wi-Fi or cellular service.
  • Troubleshoot and provision phones; understand how the District's phone numbers are assigned across its phone platforms; coordinate with vendors on outages.
  • Deploy and configure printers; support scan-to-folder, cloud printing, conference room AV, and kiosk devices.
  • Monitor the Meraki network, troubleshoot client and wireless issues, and make basic changes with review.
  • Understand what certificates are and how the District uses them.
  • Monitor Veeam Cloud backup health for Microsoft 365, Azure, and Azure Files, and perform test restores under supervision.
  • Handle badge provisioning and basic troubleshooting on the District's access control system.
  • Support security hygiene: patching, MFA enforcement, phishing triage and cleanup, security awareness training administration, and working security alerts with the District's cybersecurity consultant.
  • Support end users on District applications and track license assignments.
  • Run existing automation and support existing Azure virtual machines.
  • Responsible for onboarding and offboarding checklists for employees: accounts, devices, badges, orientation, and application access.
  • Build working relationships with partner agencies, including the regional dispatch center, municipal IT, and neighboring fire departments, and the District's vendors.

Mandatory Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Hands-on experience in independently troubleshooting Windows 11 and end-user hardware.
  • Demonstrated customer-service experience in IT or another role, with the patience to help people under stress.
  • Experience with the Microsoft cloud environment beyond end-user level, for example, managing users, licenses, mailboxes, or groups in Microsoft 365.
  • Understanding of basic networking concepts: DHCP versus static addressing, LAN versus WAN, the role of firewalls, and routing at a conceptual level.
  • Clear written and verbal communication; able to explain technical topics to non-technical staff and document your work.
  • Comfortable working on a small, all-hands support team rather than a tiered help desk.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain CJIS clearance, which requires a fingerprint-based criminal history background check.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel among District facilities.
  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field. An equivalent combination of an associate's degree, relevant certifications, and/or experience will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Experience with Microsoft Intune, Entra ID, or Autopilot.
  • Experience supporting iOS devices through a mobile device management platform.
  • Exposure to Cisco Meraki or another cloud-managed network platform.
  • Exposure to VoIP phone systems or Microsoft Teams calling.
  • PowerShell scripting or other automation experience.
  • Interest or experience in applying AI tools to IT work.
  • Some exposure to macOS, Android, or Linux.
  • Prior experience in public safety, local government, or another 24/7 operational environment.

Working Environment/Physical Requirements:
Work is performed in a variety of District environments, including administrative offices, fire stations, training and fleet facilities, equipment areas, and other operational locations. The position may work in proximity to automotive, mechanical, medical, and other equipment and supplies associated with fire and emergency services operations.
The position requires:
  • Regular travel between District facilities.
  • Occasional work outside normal business hours to support system maintenance, upgrades, cutovers, outages, or other technology needs that cannot reasonably be completed during normal operating hours.
  • Reasonable availability outside normal business hours for infrequent urgent technology issues affecting critical District operations. After-hours support responsibilities are shared among members of the IT team.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks associated with installing, moving, connecting, and maintaining technology equipment, including rack-mounted equipment and cabling.

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $95,000 to $115,000, depending on experience.
The Brighton Fire Rescue District offers a comprehensive range of benefits designed to meet the diverse needs of our team members. We offer a generous medical plan with options from Kaiser and UnitedHealthcare, as well as dental and vision. The District pays 100% of employee-only premiums and 85%-91% of dependent-level premiums.
We offer a fully funded Health Reimbursement Account that covers 50% of your or your family's out-of-pocket deductible and co-insurance expenses. Employees also receive district-provided life insurance, disability insurance, and access to Employee Assistance Programs. Furthermore, we offer a variety of voluntary benefits to best fit your lifestyle. We offer generous time off benefits, including vacation, sick time, paid parental leave, and paid holidays.
Beyond these benefits, we foster a positive and supportive work environment and are strongly committed to serving our community.
