Within Empower and our communities, we work hard to create a welcoming and inclusive environment, and our associates dedicate thousands of hours to volunteering for causes that matter most to them.

Chart your own path and grow your career while helping more customers achieve financial freedom. Empower Yourself.

As an Internal Audit Data Analyst, you will enhance the depth and efficiency of audit engagements by applying advanced analytics across planning, execution, and reporting phases. You’ll work independently to identify, access, and analyze large datasets and develop scalable analytics, automations, and tools to support risk assessments and internal operations. You’ll also collaborate with subject matter experts across the organization to understand critical data sources, schemas, metadata, and glossary definitions and drive meaningful, data-informed audit outcomes.

What you will do:

  • Data Analysis: Independently build, test, and deploy audit analytics that support planning, testing, and reporting stages of the audit lifecycle
  • Data Acquisition and Transformation: Design and execute ETL workflows across disparate internal systems; ensure completeness and accuracy of data; develop and maintain strategic business partner relationships
  • Automation Development: Create robust automated procedures (scripts, workflows) to support recurring audits and risk monitoring
  • Data Visualization and Storytelling: Create dashboards and visualizations that highlight risk and support audit conclusions
  • Control Testing: Use data to assess internal control design and operating effectiveness; partner with auditors to embed analytics into their work
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Act as a liaison between auditors, IT, and business teams to understand data sources, permissions, and audit objectives. Champion data-driven audit approaches across the Internal Audit department and with regional colleagues by sharing best practices and advocating analytics usage
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive workpapers and quality checks for all data-related tasks and processes

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor's degree with a technical discipline (computer science, information systems, statistics, actuarial science) or Bachelor's degree with a combination of business and technical disciplines (business degree with management information systems, computer science with a business administration minor, etc.)
  • 1-3 years' experience in data analytics, including consulting or project-based environments
  • SQL and at least one other programming language (e.g., Python, R)
  • ETL tools such as SAS/Alteryx and environments such as Oracle, AWS Redshift, and SAP
  • Data visualization principles and tools such as Power BI or Tableau
  • Process Automation and related tools (SharePoint, PowerApps, Alteryx)

What will set you apart:

  • Regulated financial services experience (broker-dealer, investment advisor, asset management) preferred
  • Familiarity with generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) to support creative problem-solving, research, and task automation in a professional context
  • Detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Familiarity with internal controls and risk management
