A day in the life 

As a Lead GIS Developer, you would be part of the Global Strategy Analytics (GSA) team, focusing on the development and implementation of applications to support site selection and business decision-making.  This role involves developing UI/UX interfaces, developing customized widgets and application capabilities, collaborating with various internal teams, and staying updated on GIS technologies to enhance GIS capabilities.  The position emphasizes innovation, stakeholder communication and application of GIS development to provide tools to identify market trends and opportunities. 

Key responsibilities include:  

GIS Systems Architecture & Development 

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of enterprise GIS applications supporting site selection, property analytics, and logistics optimization. 

  • Architect end-to-end geospatial solutions using platforms like Esri ArcGIS Enterprise, Snowflake and GeoServer integrated with Prologis’ internal data systems and APIs

  • Develop custom web and mobile mapping tools (e.g., portfolio visualization, proximity analytics, customer network tools) using ArcGIS API for JavaScript, Dataiku, or Leaflet

Data Integration & Spatial Analytics 

  • Build and maintain automated data pipelines that integrate real estate, market, and environmental data from multiple internal and external sources. 

  • Collaborate with Data Engineering and Data Science teams to integrate GIS data into enterprise analytics platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Dataiku, Power BI). 

Cross-Functional Collaboration 

  • Partner with Real Estate, Development, Customer Experience, and Sustainability teams to deliver GIS tools tailored to business needs. 

  • Translate non-technical requirements (e.g., location insights for new markets) into scalable, data-driven GIS solutions

  • Collaborate closely with Digital Transformation and AI/Analytics teams to embed geospatial intelligence in strategic planning tools. 

  • Mentor fellow team of GIS professionals. Establish best practices, training, and coding standards. 

Building blocks for success 

Required: 

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in GIS development. 

  • Languages: Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, SQL 

  • Databases: PostgreSQL/PostGIS, Snowflake 

  • Demonstratable experience with: Experience Builder Developer Edition, React, Git, ESRI ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript (v4.x) and familiarity with Calcite components. 

  • GIS platform proficiency: ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise, Tableau 

  • Ability to multi-task and provide support to multiple projects. 

  • Strong critical thinking skills, intellectual curiosity and desire to problem solve. 

  • Ability to cause and embrace change and adapt to evolving business needs. 

  • High attention to detail and strong organizational, analytical and communication skills. 

  • Champion innovation in geospatial technology. 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science or a related field (or applicable work experience). 

Hiring Salary Range of: $92,000 - $118,000. Salary and whole compensation package (bonus target) to be determined by the candidate’s location, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
