Astroscale U.S. Inc. is currently seeking a Flight Dynamics Engineer to join our team in our Denver, Colorado location. In this role you will be a member of the RPO team, integral to developing the on-orbit servicing solutions that will deliver our vision of a sustainable space environment.

Job Description

  • Develop, validate, and use spacecraft navigation tools across multiple orbital regimes, measurement types, and estimation techniques, including orbit determination and angles-only.
  • Support assessment of ground navigation performance.
  • Support operations throughout the mission lifecycle, including orbit determination, proximity operations, maneuver planning, and maneuver execution.
  • Support mission design, analysis, and optimization using orbital dynamics tools.
  • Work directly with multiple stakeholders to develop mission and flight dynamics requirements.
  • Create test plans and perform functional software testing and integration of flight dynamics software.
  • Contribute to analyses and training activities that inform ground system development and mission operations activities.
  • Support migration of ground navigation capabilities to onboard, autonomous navigation.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of spacecraft navigation, state estimation, and covariance analysis, particularly radiometric orbit determination and angles-only navigation.
  • Understanding of orbital mechanics, optimization methodology, statistics, mass properties, and conceptual design.
  • Knowledge of one or more scientific or engineering programming languages such as Matlab, Simulink, Python, C, or C++.
  • Knowledge of orbital dynamics tools such as STK, GMAT, or Orekit.
  • Collaborative communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experienced college graduate or professional with 2+ years of experience in ground-based space navigation and the wider flight dynamics domain.
  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree or PhD in science, technology, engineering or math, or equivalent experience.

Salary range: $90,000 – $130,000. The salary range represents the low and high end of the Astroscale U.S. Inc. salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, knowledge, and ability as applicable to the role.
